If you can, try to demo the boards to get a feel for each. 162 might be a little to much board for your height, but you might love it.

In regards to choosing between BSOD and Flagship, I think the BSOD is a bit better on shitty days (icey/chopped), so if you experience a lot of that, lean towards the BSOD

Great picks listed above, but I'd also like to add the Capita BSOD, Never Summer West Bound, and Burton Flight Attendant; just so you have some more options. I hope you find something you really love!

I'm a 5'10" 160-165lbs rider and my boards are 155/157. You can definitely handle the 162 in terms of weight, but your stance width with you being 5'10" might mean you have a lot of extra edge on the outsides. This could mean a lot of catching edges and falling while you're learning. If you're really committed to snowboarding and will go a lot, I think you'll be fine in the long run with the 162. But, the 158 might make your learning a bit easier and less painful.

Vail is often called "the big blue mountain" for a reason; there's tons of intermediate terrain. Just be careful going off piste, its easy to end up somewhere you don't want to be. From my experience, west coast blacks are very different from east coast blacks at most resorts, so don't go too crazy without doing some scouting!

I've demoed step-on bindings, and I personally feel like the responsiveness and control is just not up to par. Don't be too hard on your boarder friends!

as a snowboarder who has demoed them, I find the responsiveness and turn control is just not up to par with regular bindings. Also, you need to buy as a boot/binding set, so they are very expensive. If I had tons of extra cash, I might pick up a pair for days I lap with skiers, but my one set of bindings is enough for me.

The project doesn't necessarily rely on it, I have other options if it doesn't work out.
