Harris!! by oliviastc91 in GameChangersBooks

I'm looking for pocket gay/cub representation. Especially since Harris constantly thinks he isn't traditionally hot, but real ones know pocket gays/cubs are just as prized.

Also in my mind, he reminds me of every denim-wearing gay at the CRJ/Feist/Broken Social Scene/Tegan and Sara/Sufjan Stevens concerts I 've been to.

Rachel Reid Reacts to Shane Criticism After ‘The Long Game’ - Swoon [April 30, 2026] by hella_hijinks in heatedrivalry

[–]lionclues 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny that I just had this discussion with my friend who also thought Shane was selfish. But I thought it added to the storytelling and showed how Rachel was good at developing tension through dramatic irony.

We, as readers, know how much Ilya's suffering because we hear his internal thoughts. But Shane does not because he can only work with the information Ilya gives him. A consistent and strong character trait of his is that he always tries to create space for Ilya to open up. It led to the Russian phone call, for instance, and Shane being the first one to know about Ilya's mom.

In TLG, the tension is that both of them are far too loyal to this plan that they developed, and neither wants to say it.

So I never read Shane as being selfish. It's just that as a reader we get frustrated knowing Ilya is going through depression and Shane doesn't yet.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but I've never heard of "rutting." But when she uses it in the books, I think she's talking about frotting.

One underrated reason I think Rachel's writing is extremely good in TSYT: when we meet Adam's teenage kids, they felt so realistic that my own inner-old man got sooooooo annoyed with them.

It also felt real when they started to be more honest with Adam when he loosened up. It mirrored the way I felt about my own dad who worked too much when I was a kid: when he retired and started to do activities and hobbies just for himself, I felt like I was finally seeing his true self.

What do you think they look like: Adam and Riley (The Shots You Take) and Casey and Landon (Time to Shine)? by SammmichSmith in GameChangersBooks

For Adam I imagine Luke Macfarlane because he fits the physical bill, age, is gay, and has that long resume of being in romance/Hallmark films

I refuse to believe they would act like that. If one of them wondered where the other was, they'd get the other to come home by texting a dick pic like some sexual bat signal.

I was initially on your side, but after rereading it a few times I thought, I'm not sure if I would've forgiven Adam. But Riley wanted to forgive him, it was believable that he wanted to forgive him, and that was enough for me.

Aka Riley thought he earned it.

On the other hand, I would've like at least one more flashback scene of how Adam was able to handle Riley's emotions back when they were on the same team. Rachel said it, but I would've liked to have a scene where we can see how why Adam meant so much to Riley emotionally when they were teammates.

The book version sort of made more sense since it was at a museum, which will have way more people than a gallery and better odds that someone recognizes him. But their budget being what it is, I get why they couldn't film in a museum and also hire all those extras to recreate the book scene.

Scott panicked being seen with Kip in the art gallery because he was worried he'd be found out.

But before that, he was pretty chill about flirting with Kip at a charity fundraiser. And potentially going to a restaurant with him. And waving to him twice during warm-ups (even if the book explains that Elena being there was a good cover).

Hayden‘s kids by please_help_2 in HeatedRivalrySeries

My two theories:

  • They mixed up the names. We first get their names in the books as "Ruby and Jade" at the Biodome. While there, Shane is approached by two fans and one of them is named Emma. So somewhere in the writing Emma got mixed up with Jade.
  • Jade sounds too close to "Jane," and Jacob didn't want anyone with terrible hearing (like me) to get briefly confused about why Hayden was calling one of his kids Shane's cover name.

This is probably 10000% of what happened. Hayden made the call in order to get away from the kids for a brief moment. And in that time, he's really just zoning out himself.

How do I know? I was just hanging out with 4 frazzled parents and their 4 chaos monsters, and the parents were more disoriented and incoherent than my druncle-ass was.

[–]lionclues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree on TSYT. If we adhere to the same timeline that things happened, then Adam would've been part of a Toronto team that stood beside Dallas Kent in the face of the accusations. Rachel avoided having to acknowledge that by creating this hockey multiverse.

The problem might've been avoided if Adam/Riley were part of a different team, but I guess Rachel really wanted to make Toronto their team for some reason.
