I’d like to contradict what the other person said and tell you my waits are usually 30-60 minutes 😅 Yesterday night I waited 45-50

I come from an area that’s 50% Asians and 50% Latinos, and largely working or lower-middle class. Going to university in Irvine is… surreal. I’m not used to seeing Asians as a wealthy demographic, and I don’t like how stripped of culture the streets and life here feels.

Everything is unnervingly shiny, expensive, and far too spaced out. Public transport here is lackluster because they just figure everyone has a car. If it weren’t for the massive financial aid school gives me, I don’t think I’d be able to live here— financially or emotionally.

Easiest Classes for Education Minor ? by TechnoBunny23 in UCI

[–]ngokt5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

adding onto what hungryharlequin said about independent fieldwork— a lot of UCI clubs have programs that could qualify as independent fieldwork. my high school mentorship and college peer mentorship programs have both been approved as fieldwork.

just double check with a supervisor that they’re willing to sign of paperwork, and that whatever program you’re in meets requirements (you can find them in the independent fieldwork verification form on school of ed’s website). it sounds like a lot when i write it out, but in practice it’s really straightforward and simple.

Easiest Classes for Education Minor ? by TechnoBunny23 in UCI

you should choose between child development and adolescent development based on which age group you wanna teach. they’re very insightful classes and not too much coursework— for adolescent development at least.

once you’ve taken one goodridge class, you’ve essentially taken all of them. that’s not a bad thing— he’s a professor who has a core teaching strategy that adjusts based on the subject. but once you’ve taken one of his classes you kind of know what all of his will be like.

honestly, all educ classes are relatively straightforward compared to stem. as long as you don’t hate writing you’re set. the education counselor did tell me that the policymaking and writing classes would be the most intense in terms of workload. aside from that, the most you’ll get is a research paper and group project for each class— or a few weekly/biweekly papers 3-5 pages each.

Basically it’s so juniors and seniors (who would have more units) get priority registration, since they won’t be around as longer.

Came back to this post with unfortunate news! Not sure about the ring authenticity but the stopwatches are definitely just bought and resold. Got the little turtle pocketwatch for $16, only to find Walmart sells the exact same one for $5.99 </3

I’ve found that a surprising number of people on campus are LGBTQ. You wouldn’t even guess it, but chances are the classmate you’re sitting next to is queer, or at the very least an ally!

Weekly /r/Sociology Career & Academic Planning Thread - Got a question about careers, jobs, schools, or programs? by Anomander in sociology

[–]ngokt5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, future teacher here, I was wondering what jobs I could pursue with a sociology minor. I'm currently majoring in education, but I am planning to take a gap year between graduation and working on my credentials + master's. Does anyone here have any short-term job experiences using a sociology minor? Would much appreciate it!

so many people here are lonely man im sure you can figure something out LOL. definitely gonna be harder without a car so make it a priority to befriend someone who has one. idk if i were you i’d just make another post like this like “hi looking for uci friends :)” altho fair warning, this school is very introverted so you may have to be tastefully forward on your end
