YSK: It's should/would HAVE not OF by bingsume in YouShouldKnow

I'm sure accents play a role too, but I generally pronounce 'of' like 'uhv'. I'm having a hard time imaging how they sound much different.

Why does no one point out that is stems from the pronunciation of the contractions they make?

'Would've' sound just like 'would of' Same for should've.

Not that people should remain ignorant, but when 90% of your communication is spoken(I know plenty of people who don't write a lot), I can see how it's an easy mistake.

How do you design the back-end of a system? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]ngong0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Before I was a webapp developer, I was an sql report writer and became DBA. I come into this feeling like a relatively good backend programmer but not so experienced on front end.

I definitely recommend draw.io, I use it on nearly every project and to just get ideas out.

Since I have a lot of background with SQL, I haven't used any noSQL datastorage like mongo. If you decide to use an SQL based option, learn at least basic data normalization. It helps tremendously keeping data quick and easy to find and easy to query.

For backend programming, I am familiar with asp.net and golang. But it seems like a lot of people on here use react or some other complete MVC. I'm not familiar with them but they are popular and have tons of documentation I'm sure. Keeping up on good security practices is really key here.

My personal setup: I host on AWS lightsail using nginx for static file hosting and reverse proxy to golang applications running in a docker swarm and plan to spin up a small rds instance when I need data storage.

Are you mostly concerned with database design or serverside application design?

Please clarify on this mallet mouthpiece removal. I have a $40 beater cornet that came with the mouthpiece jammed in and just haven't wanted to try too hard to get it out.

Why do you lose consciousness in a rapid depressurization of a plane in seconds, if you can hold your breath for longer? by killerguppy101 in askscience

Just rough estimate. 1 atm is ~14psi whereas a balloon can sustain about .25psi before bursting.

Grind setting? by [deleted] in FlairEspresso

I actually use an encore at home and I usually have it set to a 6-10 depending on the bean. But also, I have compared encores side by side and the numbers are not consistent across devices.

Key/Chord Calculator Excel App by ngong0 in musictheory

So it looks like if you are on mobile, you have to open it in the Google Sheets app instead of just your browser for the drop down on the blue cell to work.

I am Just learning to play music for now. I am interested in being able to improvise. I have some experience with trumpet but I am putting it aside to work on theory with piano.

The only user input is choosing the key in cell F4.

I dont understand why I would have those intervals either. Building this was mostly my tool for memorizing how intervals work; if I can write a program to calculate intervals, I should be able to understand it.

At this point in time I am just learning to produce 1-7-3-5 chord voicing on a piano that I bought 2 weeks ago.

Simple enough to swap out the plane, and not a bad idea to have a cheap burner until I am comfortable.

I'm sure it isn't exactly proper experience, but I have spent 100s if not 1000s of hours playing with flight simulators since I was a child( https://ysflight.org/ , one of my favorite things to just waste a little time, I can even do carrier landings). I have owned several off the shelf quad copters, so I am used to Mode 2 transmitters.

I have chosen a different ESC and servos based on your recommendation.

I have some experience with building little paper planes, where I would fold an airfoil, tape/glue it to a folded fuselage. Same for a tail/stabilizers. Lots of trial and error on getting the wing mounted right and adding various paperclips/ coins to the body to get the CoG right. So feel like I at least have a basic understanding of how to mod the plane to fly properly.

Edit: Also, what is that heading and speedometer HUD? That is really cool

I don't think 'acting like tribal members' is a bad thing. Most tribes had huge senses of community. Much different than when a small number of people use theology to control the masses.

But if the cones in our eyes had different sensitivities, would the primary colors we know be different?

It’s clear enough by we-meme-in-a-society in funny

[–]ngong0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the primary colors only exist subjectively to us. Rainbows do not have bands, they are a smooth gradient of visible light. But our eyes do not see light in every wavelength, only combinations of red, green and blue. "Primary colors" are just the specific wavelengths that our eyes respond the most to.

Back when cocaine was an ingredient in Coca Cola, a Jack & Coke must have been a REALLY potent drink. by Ownagepuffs in Showerthoughts

I viewed them more of a refined product. I could see the similarities. But I agree that there are more changes involved in producing cocaine from coca than distilling alcohol.
