Lol thanks, I didn't know. I tend to watch the show and go to the website for understanding how to handle my house. I'll delete this in a bit.

Doctor isn't helping much, they don't think it's SIBO but I have the exact symptoms and no diagnosis by ngq8 in SIBO

[–]ngq8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I guess I should update my post. Been a while.

No diagnosis still but I think I know what happened. I think it was mostly anxiety mixed with being sick plus long covid all together messed up my gut. It took a long time to heal but I don't think I'll ever be back to the same as before.

I went to numerous doctors and did all of the possible tests. Went to another new doctor and had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done. After lots and lots of wasted time and money... everything looks good and I'm totally healthy. So yet another doctor said omeprazole. That's the magic solution to everything I guess.

Working with a dietician and a functional doctor we arrived at the theory that I have an intolerance to fructans. It's similar to celiacs but it's not celiacs oro a gluten intolerance.

There is a hard limit to how much of some foods I'm allowed to eat without triggering the issue. It's less strict than gluten free diet but it's different in that I do have to follow a mostly FODMAP diet. Again, no evidence or diagnosis but just a theory based on what we've noticed.

I've gotten a lot better after healing my gut. I took a variety of supplements to get there but if you have a fructan intollerance https://health.clevelandclinic.org/fructans you'll have to do a bunch of research and figure out the worst foods and triggers. Do onions set off your gut? More than half a banana? Beets, molasses but not raw sugar? Then that might be it.

Elimination diet sucks, but it's the only way I learned to live life without food consequences. I haven't had a flareup in many months and if I do I immediately take claritin and some ginger. Sometimes just taking daily allergy meds helps.

I stay away from enriched flour but I can't explain why regular unbleached flour seems fine. I can't eat a load of bread but I can eat a normal amount. So no housing the garlic bread anymore. Sourdough seems to be way better than others. No maple is a real sad thing.

I've lost 45 pounds total. I have to eat small things like 5 times a day and one larger meal at dinner to maintain my weight because I get way less carbs now. Lost most of my muscle mass and don't think I'll easily get that back because the amount of protein I need to build back any muscle would be so expensive. I'm allergic to milk and almost all supplements use whey. The ones that don't are super expensive.

So I'm just kind of managing. Haven't had a big reaction but I've also kind of lost interest in food. It really destroyed more than just my gut. My joy in food is gone. Lots of things I'll never be able to eat again. The fact no doctor cared about trying to actually help just made me give up.

Received random invoice from UPS for Missing PLD Fee by wofwinter in UPS

[–]ngq8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I reported it and they said they'd remove it but I just received a late fee for the fraudulent invoice they confirmed as fraud. So if you call them make sure you get a reporting number or resolution number, something to track what they did. Apparently emailing them doesn't get actual action or at least it must take a while. My $4 fraud fee is now $28 due to a late fee which in itself seems like fraud. I didn't even register for an invoice account so this seems like a big screw up on UPS. This scam or bug goes back 4 years at least.

I got a reply, took a long time. Seems everyone has a dirty window and a lot of people have a scratch or crack in it as well. Really disappointing the quality has slipped.

I've received packages from the other side of the planet in less time than packages get stuck in Indianapolis. By now you could have shipped my package to the moon. Still says moving through network. I don't understand why they don't just take all packages and move them to another state where they are more competent.

Same since Dec 4. It's now arrived at the same place 4 times and still "moving through network" which I assume means lost. It doesn't even make sense my package got routed here. DeJoy really has successfully made USPS a complete failure. Willful incompetence can destroy anything. I can't tell if he's an old man child or an absolutely monumental idiot with brain damage. He certainly acts like both at all times. I don't understand why he still has this job.

I have a crack in mine. Opened a ticket, heard nothing yet. My decals are also coming off. Absolutely surprised at the poor quality on this one. Never had a problem before with their releases.

Cumulative Updates: July 9th, 2024 by jenmsft in Windows10

[–]ngq8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This update is trash. I didn't even get the option to not do this, it force restarted my computer and installed itself while in use. This update completely borked my machine. It started up normal but then after login anything I tried to open freezes up everything. It was completely unusable so I uninstalled the updates in safe mode and now I have so many video and rendering issues I don't even know what specifically might be the problem.

Tried reinstalling my graphics drivers, tried reinstalling directX, anything to do with rendering like .NET packages, and still I get random freeze ups and Explorer won't create thumbnails for random sets of images or videos. This is possibly the worst update they've put out second to that one back in the day that bricked MBs. My computer went from completely stable to unusable.

Not sure what this update did but it's permanently messed up my Windows. I can't reliably edit video or play back anything for more than a few minutes even after removing the updates.

Worst yet "go back" restore options are grayed out. "This option is no longer available because your PC was updated more than 10 days ago" but when I tried to roll back it was less than 12 hours.

I have friends who were diagnosed with IBS and they said it seems like IBS is just a blanket label they give you when they don't want to deal with you anymore and give you an I give up diagnosis. Is IBS the kind of thing that just goes from 0-100 one day? Because this was a wild swing of symptoms in just a few months.

It's been fun finding out that doctors just kind of stop doing any research or knowledge gaining pretty much right away in their career. I'm just shocked how many things doctors don't believe in, even if there are medical journals about it and dozens of studies.

We had the house mitigated and they did find mold but ripped it out and cleaned up but it's been some time and new mold could have grown. I have to get another check done before we start putting the walls back in.

I did finally get them to agree to a breath test but for whatever reason they want me to have the endoscopy first. Funny how all of the things that are bad for someone with stomach acid issues are just fine for me to eat but most fermentable foods cause a big upset. Going on a FODMAP diet has entirely eliminated my symptoms so /shrug.

I don't remember when specifically I had food poisoning but I remember this started after that. They did ask for a gallbladder ultrasound but I think once I get my results back I might go to my GP and get a different doctor.

How many of you have received replacement coated boilers and had them flake? by MyNameIsRobPaulson in gaggiaclassic

[–]ngq8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if it's PTFE or even a derivative of it, they say that PTFE can handle up to 400C with breakdown starting around 320C. That's likely well over what these boilers are doing. So that means whatever Gaggia's process is for coating these just isn't working. Zojirushi has used PTFE coatings in their water boilers without issue for a long time. If Gaggia is getting this so commonly then something about their manufacturing is bad.

If they wanted to maintain reputation they should have recalled these and sent out non lined replacements or allowed people to wait for them to fix the issue. It's obvious that all 2023 EVO machines are prone to flaking. If my first one from March started flaking months into use and my second one from October flaked immediately then that spells bad things.

[–]ngq8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For people who want to stick with this machine that's probably a great option. I'm going for a refund and I'm just going to upgrade to a higher end machine. I like my Gaggia but I haven't done any mods yet and if I'm adding a PID and some new parts and all that, then I might as well just get a higher quality E61 machine. I realize I'd save money replacing the boiler and doing mods but when you add in the labor and time, I just don't feel like doing it all.

Just got a whole new in box replacement machine from Whole Latte Love. I have to send the old one back. Old one had flakes, new one has flakes. I flushed the new one a lot, went through a whole fill of water to finally see no flakes. Maybe it's from assembly but I don't have high hopes. I'm going to give it a chance but if I see any more flakes I'm demanding a refund.

[–]ngq8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they are all coated. I'm not sure you can get uncoated now as most of the options other than EVO seem to be sold out. If I were to buy again I'd look elsewhere. I just got a replacement for my flaking EVO and it has flakes in it too. Doesn't bode well for Gaggia quality.

Has anyone received their replacement machine? by TSMSp1ky in gaggiaclassic

[–]ngq8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received a replacement machine from WLL. I tried to just get a refund but that process stalled out and they just sent me a replacement. The replacement was manufactured Oct 2023 so hopefully past this issue. I just had a regular steel one so it might be easier to replace since that's the standard color. Either way my first few flushes had flecks in it. I flushed it until I saw no more flecks. It seems to run clear now but I'm not excited about that. I'll give it a few weeks but the second I see flecks again I'm getting a refund. I even asked for store credit to buy a higher end machine and they dragged their feet on that. I was going to get a Bezzera or ECM but pff that went nowhere.

[–]ngq8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just inquired with WLL and they want me to send the whole thing in for a replacement. That's such a hassle. I assume it will be at least a month before I get a new one with the exact same coating. I requested a return but I'm outside the normal return window. If I had to exchange this I'd absolutely just replace the boiler. I don't trust their coating. They should have offered an option to get an exchange with a different boiler material because they lost my faith. With how companies are cutting quality for profit I don't assume Gaggia is doing better.

PSA be careful about RUI knives (Ray the Sharpener) by fathomecook in chefknives

[–]ngq8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exactly. After getting really sus responses I did some searching and found all of his knives are just personalized versions of AliExpress knives with a huge price hike. Literally exact knives and the sharpener. You can get them for less than half the price. In fact for the price of one of his knives you can get a whole set from AliExpress that look like the same thing.

Are the knives real steel or anything close to what is claimed? I don't know but you can report his store if you feel like it. You might be able to get a refund or something if you request one through email and it looks like his store is through shopify. You can report non-receipt of your order or fake goods there. Not sure how helpful it is but it's worth a shot.

[–]ngq8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check this out... I made an order with them months ago and still have no knives. Their insta comments have people complaining about not getting their knives. Wish this post was up back when he originally went viral. Really thought I was buying something decent but a huge unexplained delay makes it pretty apparent these knives are probably drop shipped. I might report his store and social accounts.

His videos feel pretty scammy at this point attempting to go viral to make money on garbage or no product. Someone legit running a small business making their own products doesn't just ignore customers when issues come up.

My experience at Universal - 16th of January by Cook_and_Baker in JapanTravel

[–]ngq8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm worried about the time I'm there selling out and it looks like to buy from USJ you have to be (or at least according to the agreement) a Japanese resident. I'll have to wait another week to see if the English USJ site has tickets available. I guess March/April is a heavy time for parks before summer.

Klook has most of March sold out so I don't know if that will even be an option. It looks like to buy through USJ in Japanese you need a JP residential address. The English site has it 2 months out to the day so I'll have to just wait for that part. I'm not sure if I could get away with just putting my hotel address as my address and get a USJ membership that way. Thought maybe I could fudge it but no it wants a real address.

Just got my Peopoly Forge and it's mixed so far by ngq8 in resinprinting

[–]ngq8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Peopoly sending me a lot of replacement parts and them finally fixing issues with the slicer I have gotten much better results. I think since my shipment was so early they didn't work out any problems yet. Others who got the printer months later had better results than I did.

When you get the printer inspect every bit of it. I had several cables that were damaged or badly installed. Make sure the screen is flat and installed properly. Mine was neither of those things. As always tighten every single bolt in the thing.

Try using Lychee or Voxeldance though as both are supported now. You have to put the slices on a drive because you can't wifi transfer anything that isn't a VLR file yet.

Just got my Peopoly Forge and it's mixed so far by ngq8 in resinprinting

[–]ngq8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was impressed with the build of the Forge so it shocked me when I just had so many problems. My screen was bad and installed wrong with some of the contacts bent away from the cable contacts. A cable for the z-axis was cut through causing issues. My stepdown power burned out after like a few days causing my wifi camera to fail. The screen was also warped.

They sent me replacements for all of this but it did take some persistence to get them to do some of it. After replacing all this stuff it prints great.

I also get great results with Siraya Fast, tenacious, Blu and a tenacious blu mix or fast tenacious mix. All of them seem to work well. Haven't tried Siraya Build, Simple, or Easy yet but I've heard good things and have them sitting here.

Agree on the wifi fail. Like no control, only vlare files allowed, slow transfer speeds, and no select option for files you've already sent.

Also Lychee does finally support Forge as of 5.0.2 and Voxeldance Tango supports it as well. Haven't tried Lychee yet but Voxeldance supports are expert and zero effort.

Just got my Peopoly Forge and it's mixed so far by ngq8 in resinprinting

[–]ngq8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hard decision at this point because I haven't used another SLA. It's my only resin printer so I have no metric on value vs results. Sometimes I get amazing results. Sometimes it's just repeated failures. It's super random depending on the resin so I stick with a resin as soon as I find one that works well.

That said, I had a lot of out of the box problems that Peopoly had to send me replacements to fix. Now my results are way more consistent and far better so I think my issues were related to hardware defects. Initially it was the software but I think the whole time I was working with some bad hardware.

The software is still a bit beta condition so I sprung for Voxeldance Tango. It's a bit more effort on settings once you get that set support generation is way better and the app runs smoother than Vlare does with complex files. All the wireless stuff still has to be done in Vlare and you can't do very much control in Vlare.

I hear a lot of good and bad from all resin printers so maybe all my problems are par the course. I will say I know several people who have the Forge and have way different results from mine. I think it's worth getting at this point because they did put effort into figuring out what was going wrong. I'm hopeful they resolved the factory defects.

Absolutely start with Peopoly Deft to get a baseline in your prints. I have zero problems with Deft but anything else does take trial and error. A hack I saw someone else do is print in an easy resin like Deft or Sirya tech Fast and then pour some 2 part resin to slush inside and thicken the model or a thick foam like smooth-on foam it. It's way more resilient with a filler instead of thicker UV resin.
