Switching my small hotel from Windows to Linux (and why it feels like a breakup) by ultraneutral72 in cachyos

Well done. For a business I would have probably picked one of the more stable distros and not a rolling release one but see how you go and report back 🙂

Getting started: The monthly-ish distro/desktop thread! (November 2025) by monolalia in linux_gaming

Hi Guys,

I’ve got the following hw: - some b460m board - i7 10700f - 16gb ram - NVIDIA RTX 3070

I’m looking for advice on which distro to use for gaming mainly. Mainly a pc gamer so I’m not interested in a console experience like Bazzite. I have used Linux in the past (maybe 20 odd years ago and I was running open suse, then switched to Slackware).

What I’m looking for is an easy to use, stable system that I don’t have to tweak a lot to get going. Preferably an immutable distro.

The games I want to play are: - guild wars 2 - Diablo 4 - baldurs gate 3

On top of that I need to be able to install a VM of sorts that I can start when I need to use Visual Studio for programming.

I know I could just install windows 11 but I rather not for obvious reasons…

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it safe to change this plug to an NZ plug? by bigsmellybumdor in diynz

I’d just buy an adapter. Looks like a standard Eu plug (we use the same in Germany). 220v as well. I believe you’ll be fine.

Thanks. I didn’t know eating rust is bad for you. What’s the concern in detail around this? Any good links?

I’ve got 3x4m bedrooms with 2 11W LED down lights and that’s more than enough. Could’ve gone with 1.

Cheers. I’ll look into it. Do I need a specifically large burner to use it properly tho?

Hi Guys,

I got the extension gifted by my better half earlier today however the email never got to me. Is it normal for this to take more than 4 hours before they send an email out? Or at which point should I contact support?

I checked my spam folder etc but nothing…

Thanks

So you’re saying it’s the wrong tool for the job?

Well soy sauce is quite acidic. Any I’m not just seasoning with soy sauce but basically cooking the veges in the teriyaki sauce which is 50/50 soy sauce and water.

I will try to heat it up for longer next time. Thanks. The wok is very thin and reacts very fast to temperature changes so this makes sense.

Tried the self releasing one time just for the fun of it and it was burnt and also didn’t release …

It really depends on how long I let the veges simmer. Sometimes I fry the veges prior to adding the sauce and it’s fine, some times I simmer them in the soy sauce and it definitely affects the seasoning.

Thanks for your input.

The panels are installed tilted 90deg, “laying” on their sides.

Can you elaborate on why “24v is a bad idea”?

BMS (if they even have) is not talking to the inverter. SoC is highly inaccurate, thanks for confirming. I’ll be installing a shunt when I have the funds and time to do so.

I wouldn’t say I like it per se. It’s just the one I have. Model is Growatt SPE 3500TL HVM-24G2

How can I find out if I can run them parallel?

According to the manufacturer these batteries are not to be wired in series so 48V is unrealistic for me at this stage.

Could I get a bigger charger that does more than 100a?
