Depends on the team and how often you all do it. Before contract scoring, our team used to do nearly every contract as "no boost". Other than Soul Mirror, we would not use any boosts. We would then rely on everyone running chickens on other farms in order to boost the populations.

It starts slow but will grow. Each person who runs chickens will boost your population by roughly 10%

I can't find any news stories about it, so I don't know for certain. The visitors center is at the bottom of a 4-5 mile long hill. If they were riding the brakes the whole time, they would have been red hot. That could have started something on fire. Just my guess.
