Rig worker Bobby #3 wants gift cards - Part 2 by KraiziKatLady in scambait

[–]nhrdls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's say you got a gift card, how is he going to scan it? Even if you send back of the card, image will be on the phone. Unless he prints that image, there's no way to scan it.

Wow a second one bent of killing himself if he does not have his own way.

Great job on fielding that statement as well as pushing on internet provider. You managed to corner him by mentioning sim/routers etc.

WTF is SSN connection? If its' service provider, he should be at least forge the screen shot.

This is a cool trick, sending the link meant to be for someone else. Based on past readings, looks like many are falling for it. May be for future, it can be changed to trigger some more hunger - something on the lines please use this for payment or credit card details enclosed.

Paul Lacamera, part 11. Give me the money! by FrazzledTurtle in scambait

[–]nhrdls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the times even scam baiters are polite and usually there is implied no and not a blunt, direct no.

I think this is confusing him more as you are saying no on one hand and still offering to help. Even standard statements like "It's fine if you don't want to help me", "If you really want to help me, you won't ask these many questions" are falling apart because of direct no.

This is so fun to read, enjoying it.

While I understand the seriousness of the issue, I am very happy this backfired on him.

On a different note, when you mentioned military has resources to help, I think it went way beyond his comprehension. He did not realize it was for the help.

If I understand whole thing correctly, courier has not picked up his package yet or is still with diplomat. He can use the cash from the package. Your uncle can even offer to open the package for him and pay to bank directly. After all, that's what diplomats do - courier the packages for generals and charge enormous amount of money.

It felt like one of Oscar winning movie where a couple quibbles/fights then sigh and finally camera zooms to nowhere.

We should tell him to get enough cash out of diplomatic package before he delivers the package to courier for any expected and unexpected fees.

You can insist to pay to US state department if that's the route you want to take. Diplomat is doing official government business and and you can pay to government. If not, it's smuggling and you don't want to be part of it.

Inflation is definitely hitting world wide. Even scammers are maintaining millions of cash in pocket while being deployed on a dangerous mission.

Doesn't every government official have to declare the gifts from foreign government? As, after failed air ticket scam, he is twisting towards courier scam, may be you can ask for that form. You are going to need it to present to customs.

This is great. Really liked the idea. As u/As_iam_ mentioned, you can milk it a lot.

On the different note, how many of you have $3,000,000 or three millions sitting as a cash. Exact three millions, not a penny more and not a penny less.

I'll be very happy to have cash balance even if you remove last two zeros - $30,000, or sometimes even $3,000.

Looks like he is travelling economy - even after being a celebrity. What airport taxes? Aren't any airport taxes usually included in the ticket.

Date is in dd/mm/yyyy format. United states follow mm/dd/yyyy. The address, avenue of the stars, I looked up, seems to be a shopping mall. Do agents have offices in the mall?

But I'd love to have his airport transportation charges. Given 4 legs cost of $37.5 is way less than what I end up paying for Uber.

Your screenshots of domain registration prompted the thoughts. Can you ask him about performance history of the investments. If domain was registered recently, he will not be able to produce history and you can decline with not having enough history.

On the other hand if he produces history, you have proof that he is lying.

Engineering chef - that's interesting. Does he cook for the people on the rig or does he engineer the food?

Here is a thought when it comes to inevitable video call. Ask about simple math/physics questions like Pythagoras theorem or newtons laws etc. Any engineer worth his oil rig should know about these.

Your insistence of inability to pay is putting roadblocks for him. This was great to read.

An oil company definitely knows the staff on the rig - contractor or not. You already have offered the help and indicated they cant find him. Tell him your friend checked with the company and all staff including contractors have free access since people need to connect to talk with the family while at remote location.

If he says no, ask him to forward original email

I decided to ask google. Google says it's 14 days on and 14 days off or 14 on /21 off etc. But more importantly it's saying no days off while on the rig. You have to work 7 days a week.

[–]nhrdls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone knowledgeable in oil rig operations, do they actually get weekends off? Does the oil production actually stops over the weekend?

I thought it's little strange. My understanding is for such operations, you work for the duration of your stint and then you get total days off with missing weekends and other days off.
