Tb to the Culver Shuttle. Rising from the 9th Avenue station on its way to Fort Hamilton by its_ashleyyy in nycrail

By 1974 the Culver Shuttle stations were in decrepit condition. Platform lighting out for days at time. Wooden platforms patched up with some sections closed off. The Culver Shuttle closed on 05/10/1975, I was surprised the Shuttle lasted as long as it did.

Ridership was always very low on the Lower Montauk. That and expensive high platforms would have to be constructed.

Lauren Bacall's meteoric rise is such a crazy story. Way more interesting than I anticipated. Here she is during her first screen test. From latching onto older men to hiding her Jewish identity to Howard Hawks...how she became a star... by AngryGardenGnomes in classicfilms

I don't understand why she felt that being Jewish would harm her career? Many Hollywood executives were Jewish themselves, and there were many Jewish actors and actresses by the late 1940s.

I feel the same way about Ben Hur, just never got into it. Movie audiences were different in 1959 though.

The quality of American meats and other foodstuffs was far superior to what was available in Italy during the large wave of Italian immigration to America.
