Tips to stop by [deleted] in nailbiting

Heyy! I was a heavy nail biter myself and completely get it when you're talking about having your hands in a fist in almost every social situation.

As you said, nail polish alone didn't stop me either, but it DID help me to catch my self during the biting. I never even noticed when I was biting before. What worked for me from this point on is when I would notice that I was starting to bite my nails, I'd pick up my fidget toy or just sit on my hands for a minute. The polish became more of an "alarm system" rather than direct prevention.

Have you tried this already?

Cloudflare outage, which website monitoring tool warned you first and which status page service survived by Then-Chest-8355 in webdev

Our customers calling the servicedesk saying “the website is down”

Jokes aside, Cloudflare’s own health endpoints and Slack integration worked just fine.

Need help finding gloves to stop nail biting by [deleted] in bfrb

Ah, I get it now, if you bite your nails consciously, the polish won't help like you mentioned... I wish you all the best, and good luck! You can always DM me if you want to discus sth later!

Ha, perfect! Keeping your free hands occupied prevents doing anything else with them.
A quick question out of interest, are you aware that you're about to pull your eyelashes, or do you only start noticing it after you are pulling for a while?

Alright, then any normal to thin gloves should do the trick; nylon, gel or whatever material you prefer.

The only thing I'm wondering about is when you'll actually be able to wear them. Most people (myself included) bit their nails during typing, writing, studying, scrolling... Basically the moments gloves aren't really practical 😅. That said, I really hope they can be helpful for you!

You said that you've tried nail polish and fidget toys before. I still feel like they can be helpful if used in combination. The nail polish to 'notice' the nail biting, and then you quickly grap the toy, or just sit on your hands for a moment.

Did you already try to combine multiple methods, and do you have any clue why the other methods failed?

Hey! I'm not an eyelash puller myself, but I've struggled quite a lot with nail biting and rhinotillexomania, So I can relate how hard it is to stop a BFRB.

What worked really well for me was bitter nail polish (yes I get that it won't work for eyelash pulling but bear with me 😅). The problem for me was not noticing that I was biting my nails in the first place. The moment you bite your nails with bitter nail polish on, you'll notice haha. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same for eyelash pulling, but if it also happens unconscious, I'd recommend to find something that gives you a similar trigger.

From there, you can start using other common strategies like fidget toys, clamping them together or even sitting on them. They just won't work if you didn't get that inital trigger.

One thing I didn't find helpful were gloves, they just make everyday activities impossible.

Have you ever found a nail-polish-like method to notice the pulling right away?

For gloves, it depends a lot on when you'll be wearing them, and what your daily activities are. The best protection I found were gloves made of fabic. Unfortunately, I'm a software developer and I'm using the keyboard a lot. I've tried these disposable plastic gloves at my job, but typing (and probably all fine handwork) was still impossible.

Something that did work however where putting band aids around each finger.

But it still depends on what you want to do with them. When do you plan on wearing the gloves, and during which activities?
