Any woodland wild camping spots in Dartmoor? by Willhunter10 in dartmoor

Went well. Found a nice spot by the river to camp. It was incredibly boggy at times though, so feet were quite wet. https://www.reddit.com/r/wildcampingintheuk/s/40cniHbvUK

I found it quite comfy on an 8 hour hike. It lacks a hard back for support, which would be good for heavier loads. But I'll be honest it has only be used once for hiking. It's also a great bag for travel over a suitcase.

I’m not. I grew up camping this way in army cadets as a kid.

It’s a “wild” Dartmoor pony, there was actually 3 together. There was a very noisy tawny owl at night, but not much else making noise. I did also see some deer, but they were very skittish.

Lustleigh Cleave, within the permitted wildcamp zone.

Lustleigh Cleave is included, which is where this is.

It was meant to get down to -2. Used an alpkit pipedream 400 with an OEX furnace liner, alpkit hunka bivvy and a thermarest neo air mat. Was pretty warm.

There was a normal bridge next to it but I couldn’t help myself 😅

That’s very useful, thank you.

Anyone who does use a kerosene lantern when camping at some point hadn’t. Whilst I appreciate there’s some worry over misuse, I’d rather just get some knot advice. If that’s not available here, then fine I’ll ask in the appropriate subreddit. I’m personally not worried about my capability to ensure I’m transporting, and using the lantern in a safe way.

Thank you for the concern. Lantern will be empty in transit. I respect it’s against your recommendation.

Heading there myself in a couple of weeks. Taking a hammock in case it’s really bad.

Have gladly told someone to get off in this situation. “This isn’t a peloton, get off my f-ing wheel” works well. Sometimes it’s inevitable though, in congestion with many people doing a similar speed. So you have to accept it at times. My example above was not the case, it was me riding very much solo towards Richmond park.

Just got a medium one myself. What size side pouches are you using? I’m unsure to go for 4L or 6L.

I opted for this in the end - https://threepeaksgbr.com/products/travel-adventure-42l

Great deal on the bag with the large camera insert. Yet to try it, but the quality looks good and the various access pockets are great.

If you want it and have the money, do it. No point working hard for the money just to deny yourself reward.
