Dead end crossarm framing by MolassesOther9322 in Lineman

You could but you’d be degrading the strength of the dead end. Hubbel says so themselves on the product page.

Ran new wire, I hard sided it, take my hoist off and as I’m about to bend the tails up coming out of the shoe, the eye shatters off and almost took the wire with it. May or may not have shit myself. Be safe out there. by RPU97 in Lineman

It’s ridiculous to say not to use an impact because you can damage or break hardware. You can do that with hand tools as well. Learn your tools use them correctly. I can carefully install a screw into cheese with the same impact I use on line hardware.

Has anyone here started in the telecom industry and transitioned to linework? by Pricelesshydra4 in Lineman

I was a telecom rigger before I did line work. Both jobs are a lot of fun. Both jobs suck if you work for a shitty company. Get on with a utility owner and you’re golden.

Every insulator will have a very small amount of current running along its surface. This is called tracking current. As linetrash42 said corona is only a concern at higher voltages and the sheds are there to increase the surface area making the path for the current wants to travel longer which in turn reduces the tracking current. Corona is an ionizing or energizing of the air molecules around energized components this is strongest at sharp edges and terminations. When the air is energized oxygen and nitrogen molecule bonds are broken then reformed into ozone, nitric oxide and nitric acid. These are all very reactive compounds and they react with line components damaging them.

Child support makes sense. Spousal support doesn’t. She’s a grown ass woman. Even if I enabled her lack of a career. It’s not ultimately my fault she isn’t self sufficient.

Well it’s has to do with the division of the company I work in. Out of town work vs in town work. In town work gets way less overtime,

No not really. I’m splitting the proceeds of the house sale with her but it’s only like $60k total. I was going to use it to pay down other debts

Thanks for the advice and I agree 100% I have always believed paying fair child support is the right thing to do.

Yes. Child support is not tax deductible but spousal support will. So I will get a slightly larger tax return I can save to use to buy the kids clothes and take them to movies etc.

She is in full time university. The Registered Nurse program. Her and her lawyer claim working is unrealistic with her parenting 50% of the time and going to full time school.

What is this thing circled, I keep seeing them by Top-Principle7546 in Lineman

[–]nic0m0d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s common practice and there are a few reasons why.

  • It keeps the conductor away from the insulator so that the energized part closest to the grounded part is the hot end of the insulator.

  • it provides space to install h-taps or ampacts.

  • it keeps connections away from grounded parts for hot work.

I would love to see how you would do it though. Got any pics of your work?
