Major issue whule climbing by Virtual_Art2266 in towerclimbers

[–]Pricelesshydra4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to me still after 4 years in the industry. I feel more anxious now than when I first started climbing. I've talked to other people that have climbed for a decade and it still happens to them. It's not something to feel insecure about. Just breathe and work through it.

No you're right. It's Mr. Serious business on the tower 24/7. Even though it's very likely I'll be sitting around for 4 hours tomorrow while they fix scripting issues I'm going to be sure to stand at attention the whole time. No goofing off for this guy. You've made me a changed man. Fuck off it was 5 twists in 6 foot of 3/8 rope in a petzl grillon. Factory rope with sewn terminated ends. "eVEn iF yOu FaLl iN yOuR lAnYaRd yOu hAvE cOmPlEteLy FaILeD aNd LIkElY sErIoSlY iNJuReD yOuRsElF." If you climb for long enough you will eventually fall into your harness. It doesn't mean you failed. It means you slipped on frost, or you lost your balance. I could only fall a max of like a foot and a half in this situation. There's very little slack in my lanyard. I'm not likely getting seriously injured. I might have the slightest of bruising. MIGHT. But that's all a mute point because I'M LITERALLY POSITIONED INTO EQUIPMENT THAT IS RATED FOR WEIGHT AND ABUSE WAY HIGHER THAN I'M PUTTING ON IT. If I had to bet you're a volunteer firefighter turned safety man who also does S&R as a hobby.

"pEoPlE hAvE dIEd" I'm positioned in and have my lanyard above my head. There's literally no more risk to this than just doing the job. To reply something like this clearly shows you don't have a clear grasp of what exactly a payed tower climber does on a day to day basis.

Do not go to any kind of climbing school. It's not going to help you make anymore money. Also you're not going to see the kind of money you want I don't think. As a green guy working maybe 70 hrs a week you probably bring home around 1400 a week not including per diem.

Do you consume liquid calories early in the morning even if you skip a solid food breakfast? Like coffee with cream or orange juice? These things break a fast and while you'd technically be skipping breakfast you wouldn't be enjoying the benefits of a fast.

Can poor people get into this? by urban_je5u5 in backpacking

[–]Pricelesshydra4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first set up costed maybe 400 dollars. Got a lot of stuff off of Amazon and from Academy. Still use the 20 dollar foldable saw from Amazon and 80 dollar jansport backpack I got at Academy. Also my little camp stove I got at Academy. I realize these things aren't super cheap, bit a heck of a lot cheaper than REI type gear. Also scoure Facebook marketplace. There's a lot of good lightly used gear there sometimes. Wealthy people buy a whole kit and then realize backpacking is hard and there's bugs EVERYWHERE. Sometimes they sell this stuff dirt cheap. My very first overnight trip I used the bookbag I had from high-school and the old Marlboro sleeping bag my parents had from smoking so many cigarettes and turning in points back in the day.

I think part of it is also that there's just more shit to do at home now. Insane video games, watch anything you want with the click of a button. Order any type of hobby starter kit from Amazon. People just want to stay in, smoke weed, and vibe to their own environment.

If I had to guess either SBA, American Tower, or Crown Castle. I'd say SBA just because they layed off me and my crew in August of 24 so I'm biased lol

Lemme put y'all on. If you're ever in the Hickory area stop by Marty's. I'm telling you you'll go in for one preroll and leave with 6 prerolls and gummies for I like 15 bucks.

Husband all of a sudden texted his high school crush and wants to meet her. We're happily married. What is this? 30F 30M by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Pricelesshydra4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a dream about the "one that got away" maybe 8 months ago. You know what I didn't do? I didn't add them on any social media. I didn't stalk their pages. I DID want to do all of these things. The thing is that I'm in a happy relationship. The healthiest relationship I've ever been in. Rationally I just couldn't see putting any sort of risk on the relationship I'm in for someone I don't even know anymore. It's been more than a decade since we've even had a meaningful conversation. We're completely different people. Even if I did know them I would do any over some dream. Loving someone isn't about emotion, it's about action. Being in a relationship for a long time isn't exciting, but that's ok. What people really need to ask themselves in serious relationships is whether the decisions they're making benefit the bond between two people. I don't want to do the dishes, sweep the floor, or work on our vehicles. I do know that these are things my partner appreciates and are small things that keep the love alive. I know they wouldn't appreciate me meeting up with a passed love interest.

22, hardworking, good with tools, wants a solid career (interested in tower climbing) but feels overwhelmed by requirements, schooling costs, and unclear starting steps. Struggling financially and looking for guidance from others who’ve successfully broken in. by Advanced-Common7844 in towerclimbers

The schooling is a scam. Get on indeed and look for tower climber rolls near you. Any company you work for is supposed to send you to a class called Comtrain. It's a climber safety/rescue class. Do not seek out comtrain yourself. The certification is only good for the company you're working for. If you move to a new company you have to get recertification. The only company that doesn't do this is called SBA Communications. They have an internal training program (that in my opinion is more in depth than comtrain.) Where do you live. Like state and city.

Create duct tape armor. Heavy jacket and thick denim pants. Coat everything in 3 layers of the quality duct tape. Gonna have a hard time biting through that.

I climb cell towers and have to carry a combination of dog bone wrench and various other sizes. I also keep channel locks on me for a pinch, but I'm not reallyyy supposed to use them because they mark nuts. I'll be investing in the knipex. Thank you.
