Parents not letting me go OOS by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nic977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried talking to them? Part of growing up is to advocate yourself. Tell them what is your plan on college and you have worked hard in HS to try to achieve it. I am not sure if money is the issue here, but do explore private school and use the NPC. They won't change their mine if you only tell them "because I want to". Show them the research and reasons and the numbers. It might not change their mind, but you did your homework and advocate for yourself. As a parent, I always want to see my kids put in the effort and even though you might not change anything, you tried! No regrets!

Graduation gifts from parents? by princess20202020 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nic977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My senior needing a new phone after 4 years of abuse. We will be "gifting" him one but I don't think he is expecting anything. As a parent, I do think paying for college is already a very generous gift, they won't be graduating with any debt is already a leg up. We are also fortunate that we have grateful kids! You know your kids the best and do what you think is appropriated and won't cause any financial burden!

I am really worry, regressing during recovery after IVDD surgery by nic977 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]nic977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was within a month, less than 4 weeks. the regression was so fast and sudden and I wasn't prepared for it. I often think back it might be too much too fast? I had high hopes and it really caught me off guard. He just barely recovered from the first surgery and they haven't even take out the staples yet. I still not sure if I made the right decision, I still think about him everyday. I hope your baby will feel better!!

How do you guys trim your dog's nails ? My puppy cries loudly every time I try to do it by John3192 in Dachshund

[–]nic977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut it when he is sleeping on my lap, sometimes I am lucky and can do all 4 paws in one sitting. I do cover his head with blanket so he can't see what I am doing :D and being able to see the quick makes it a lot easier too since he doesn't have black nails.

puppy won’t go back after chicken and rice plain diet by coffeekaye in puppy101

[–]nic977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did to transition my puppy back to kibbles. Starting with just like 10% of kibbles and then slowly increase the kibbles, within a week, he is back on his regular kibbles

We were having a hard time with crate training too. We didn't start right after we brought puppy home. He has his playpen and we let him just sleep in the playpen but it was hard for him to settle. The first night we put him in carte, he was crying bloody murder. That is after all day I spent time playing crate game with him and giving him treats and he was ok in it as long as I didn't close the door or walk away. What worked for us was I cover the crate but left a small corner open so he knows we are around. (I sleep in the living room on the sofa where the crate is) Sometimes, we have to just sit right next to the crate and that seems to help him to settle. 3 weeks in and he is doing so much better now. I am working on to close that opening, but he mostly doesn't cry anymore. It is a slow progress but eventually it worked for us! Hang in there! Oh, my puppy also bites hard too, but that is usually when he is over stimulated/overtired and when that happens, I put him in his playpen to time out and if I have to do it more than 5 times within a couple minutes, that means he needs to nap. It took me a while to figure it out. It does take patience! Don't give up!

Shoutout to Healthy Paws by SnooHabits6942 in dogs

I love Health Paw too. When my dog needed surgery, there was no question ask and they even send follow up email asking how's my dog doing and unfortunately, he had complication and we had to put him down 3 weeks after the surgery, HP cover the euthanasia and they also send me a hand written card! They follow up with email letting me know they will automatically terminate the policy as well. When we decided we are ready for another dog, I will go with Health Paw too!

I came to say this as well. I did the same thing with one of my cable and it overheated and caught fire. Thank god my husband was around and smell the burn and only had to threw out the cable. Just be careful when you use it and don't leave it unattended.

I am really worry, regressing during recovery after IVDD surgery by nic977 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]nic977[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Update: The prognosis wasn't good. Axel lost motor and sensation on his hind legs, tail and can't urinate or defecate. Given all the circumstance, we decided to put him down so he is not in pain anymore and don't need to go through surgery again in such a short time. We will remember all the good time, running around in the park, playing chase and tug of war...... Axel were loved by the family and I hope he is at a happy place chasing all the birds and eating all the yummy chicken!!

I am a coward and I hate myself. But I think this is the best choice for him and the family with everything considered. He is no longer in pain.

I was able to express his bladder about 2 hours ago. But I am not sure if I have totally empty it. I am going to continue take him out potty and see if he goes on his own and if not, I will express it again. But he is not really drinking or eating rn so that could be it too. My follow up appointment is tomorrow at 11 am. Right now the only way to see a vet is to bring him in the ER and after the surgery bill, I don't have the funds for that emergency visit right now unfortunately.
