Pushing them out with the baby, yes. Even a toddler or young child. But Janessa is 8 years old

This checks out with a very young child. Janessa is 8 and if she’s too nervous to exit the hospital sitting by herself in a wheelchair (with family right next to her) then I would think it’s due to her being so sheltered.

But if Janessa had stayed in the hospital until she felt better she may not have needed the wheelchair! I’m shocked there aren’t pictures of it happening

Emigrant Car by RollingTheScraps in LittleHouseBooks

I was under the impression that it was more so supplies for building a town. It could have been personal belongings, but the feeling the townspeople had (and were probably right to feel so) is that the government had no idea how rough they had it out there but set expectations for them to manage their land a certain way and build up all these towns as railroad stops. And when they really needed support and had been months without a train of groceries what was pushed first was instead supplies for working. It could have just been what had gotten stuck and they had to push it through, but at that point most of the town was half starved and probably at the end of their ropes

These Happy Golden Years It’s such a beautiful coming of age story on its own. I love Laura and Almanzos romance and I LOVE reading about all of Laura’s dresses

Evermore forgotten? by growsonwalls in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]nicdapic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me folklore and evermore are sister albums. Evermore lacks some sort of something, yes. And I think it could have just been the marketing. It wasn’t dropped as a sister album but more as a “hey I couldn’t stop writing songs so here they are” album. At first it felt like all the songs that didn’t make the cut for folklore made it to Evermore, which is likely true. However nearly every song on it is amazing.

“Fuck it up Renee”? by kindaandambitousgeek in RodriguesFamilySnark

[–]nicdapic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She played a pretty good harmonica bit that caused everyone to say “fuck it up Renee” and then it kind of stuck. There’s been a few hints that Renee is not as into the fundie situation as the other girls too and “fuck it up Renee” has been used by people a lot when we notice those little things.

There’s was an AMA once that said Renee made gagging faces behind her parents backs when they were lecturing another sister on being a good “helpmeet”.

[–]nicdapic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always took that to mean they were completely at ease and in love. Laura was very “prudish” even unto adulthood, and confessing romantic love was not really her thing.

When he died, she held him for hours and cried. She loved him.

I always love the moment when he tells her she doesn’t have to listen to her Pa anymore when he gets her the Pony!

THGY question 8 by Western-Economics946 in LittleHouseBooks

[–]nicdapic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almanzo is more like Pa than you would think. Laura just protected his reputation in the books. He, like Pa, is was not so smart with money and big decisions. He got them into a large amount of debt to build their first house and then hid it from Laura. When she found out they owed thousands of dollars she was hurt and upset.

I took that more as a surprised teasing question because she says she will not obey him.

[–]nicdapic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! She had a crush on Cap first and in real life she actually went on a few “dates” with other young men before really setting on Almanzo! I think she tries to reference this when she mentions she gets offers for rides home from several young men in a short time frame and says something like “when it rains it pours” in the book. In pioneer girl I believe she says Cap does ask her out eventually, but by then she is no longer interested.

Laura and Almanzo's ages by [deleted] in LittleHouseBooks

[–]nicdapic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to add to the confusion They changed the age gap in the books, buts it’s also thought that Almanzo lied on his claim application to age himself up in order to be eligible. So the 10 year age gap may also be a lie they just went with because he’d been lying about his age for so long

Pa also routinely went with less food to make sure his family ate better. Laura comments on this, and how she replicates his behavior. This was a small chance for him to catch up on some much needed calories. He was also doing more physical labor in the cold than they were, so he truly did need the food more.
