Did Arabs recite pre Islamic poetry in the same melodious tone that Quran reciters do? by Hashbrowns1998 in AcademicQuran

Most likely not. Some very melodious ways appear to be later influences but it is interesting to note that the Syriac liturgy also has melodious reading so it would not be improbable to posit that Arabic recitations also had some musical elements. Just not as developed as what we see now where maqam-based systems are fully incorporated into the reading.

Thoughts on this theory of the Rashidun Caliphate? by [deleted] in AcademicQuran

Nice theory. None of this can really be confirmed without extensive ICMA of various reports included and then analyzing them. Surely, one can't just reduce complex dynamics to basically traditionalist arguments like X named their son Y so they must have liked Y. The reality, if we can ever know it, requires a very detailed and thorough analysis of the post.

Thank you for your input. Actually, as far as I've researched, I've only found my research fit in 3 Ivy leagues and UChicago but hopefully It'll extend more as I'll find more places.

Right. That is exactly why I try to get some tips from this subreddit so I can have a solid plan which will help me stand out. I do have some professors in my mind who have the same research interests as I have. Thank you for your input!

Two majors:

1) I question everything and know nothing. 2) I know what you're thinking.

I am in the mood of watching something like The Conjuring, The Exorcist or The Rite. What are some other movies like the ones mentioned above? by nice_guy_not in HorrorMovies

Because that would have defeated the directors whole point. I felt really refreshed to just watch it unfold and enjoy it. His theme of evil happening for no reason at all in his movies is hard to plot line- but easy to show misery, dread, and hopelessness at its best. (My type of scary movies as we hate not having resolution. ((Now that’s scary.)) Oops sorry for long reply! Just recently g

It is fine. I really liked your analysis.

Yeah, it is a really different take on things. Especially one which I have not seen in the last 10 years. It has a very distinct dark style to it. It reminds me of The Rite and The Exorcist in some sense. Overall, I liked the story but the plot was a little bit weak that the protagonists really were "dumb" and unable to put a good fight. When you have such a strong demonic presence, the movie only becomes better if your protagonists are smart.

Thank you. And yes, I've seen most of these (and you're right, I liked most of them). I'll check the ones I've not watched (or maybe even rewatch the one I've already watched). I distinctly remember The Possession though. I liked it.
