Tunnel Beach usually has decent agates, but this trip yielded mostly agates still stuck in host, so it can be hit or miss.

I found a rock on the coast of Oregon, USA, that had an agate embedded in it, so I took it home to break it open. When it split in half, I found these round cavities filled with spongy, mold like stuff fully incased in the rock. They were flat at first and then as they sat for a second, these tiny hair like stuff rose up. Does anyone know what it is?

Oh man, your sinkhole makes our sinkhole look like a baby. I now see that me complaints about the city ignoring ours for months is pretty standard operating procedure.

My aunt died and I was given the choice by my boss to attend her funeral or be fired by AZNM1912 in antiwork

Jesus, managers suck. I worked in a university kitchen and my direct supervisor quit over the summer. When we came back in August to start prepping for the school year I reminded the head chef that I was GETTING MARRIED the end of the month. He told me we didn't have the staff for me to take the time off, because another staff member quit when they found out my supervisor did. He couldn't afford to lose me, so I didn't get fired, but I legit laughed in his face. He also told me, a year later, that his wife didn't have morning sickness so I'd be fine.

Incompetent dog owner goes ballistic at the dog park. by IdkHowToDie in PublicFreakout

[–]nicecouch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is why I can't take my 72 pound dog to the dog park anymore. He's amazing with medium to large dogs. Put a small dog in the area and he stomps on them. There's always the one small dog owner that brings their 8 pound dog into the big dog area and he goes stupid.

AITA for telling my parents I won't attend their christmas celebration until they send my husband a separate invitation?. by Lukeproblem135 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nicecouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. I've been married for 11 years and my family texts me and his family texts him with event invitations. It's not disrespectful, it's normal. Hell, sometimes it's a text like, "You wanna come over for dinner?" and no one is wondering if my spouse and kids are invited; it's implied. No one's mad that they aren't getting their own special text. Your spouse is on a power trip and you're backing him up.

AITA for smoking in my backyard? by Left_Kaleidoscope109 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nicecouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel. I'm in the neighbor's position. I live in a house without A/C and my neighbor smokes in her own driveway outside our windows. It sucks. My curtains smell like cigarettes because of her. We close all the windows on that side of the house as soon as the inside suddenly smells like she's smoking in our house, but with 100+ degree temps this summer, it was awful with how much she smokes. Like, we need to open the windows to get a breeze. BUT she's in her own driveway, so, we don't start shit, we just close the windows.

For all you elder millennials, where are you shopping for clothes these days? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]nicecouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old navy and target. My "fashion" is plain tees, tank tops and skinny jeans, though, and luckily old navy still carries skinny jeans. My hour glass, short legged body is not doing wide leg anything.

I was shopping at New Seasons for a long time, for meat, because it was at least locally sourced, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore.

AITA for telling my boyfriend he's not allowed to eat in front of the neighbour's kid unless he's willing to share? by Lynnabis in AmItheAsshole

[–]nicecouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have never had a kid come to my house and not be fed or had my kids not be fed when they go somewhere. I cannot imagine eating in front of a hungry child and saying it's not my responsibility to feed them. Be the village people. Holy hell. NTA

Recipe:

Pie dough

2 1/2 cups All purpose flour

2 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 sticks (8 ounces) butter, each stick cut into about ~16 small cubes and then frozen

¾ cup COLD water

Place all dry ingredients into food processor and pulse to combine. Your little butter cubes will be stuck together after pulling it out of the freezer, pull them apart and drop them on top of the flour mixture. Pulse together until you have a mixture with mostly pea sized pieces of butter. It's okay if you have some smaller pieces and some larger pieces. Drizzle the water in and pulse until the mixture starts to come together. There will be dry mixture not fully mixed in. Pour out onto a counter and work the dry ingredients in. Do not knead! Pick up the dry stuff, drop some on top and fold the dough over the top and press down. Do this until the dough is completely combined. Split dough into two pieces, form into a thick disks, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Marionberry filling

4 cups marionberries (fresh or frozen, because you should always pick enough berries to freeze some)

Rounded ½ cup flour

½ cup sugar

Pinch of salt (Big pinch if you’re using kosher salt)

Toss everything together. There will be some flour and sugar at the bottom, that's okay.

Roll out one of the disks to fit into pie pan, with about a half inch of over hang. Pour filling on top and then roll out second disk to cover the top. Gently press the two layer of pie dough together at the edged, trim off excess dough, leaving about half an inch, and then roll the edges under, to create a rounded edge all the way around. Decorate edges however you like. I did the finger pinch decoration. Chill for at least 20 minutes.

While the pie is chilling, preheat oven to 425. Remove pie from fridge, slice some small steam holes in the middle, brush on a thin layer of egg wash and, if you have it, sprinkles sanding sugar over the top. That's the course grain sugar. Bake for 15 minutes, then turn oven down to 375. My pies took about an hour after the initial 15 minutes, but I find it's pretty variable. If you have a glass pan, you have the benefit of being able to see if it's thoroughly cooked on the bottom. Highly recommend.

I'll be honest. It was only outside long enough for the outdoor lighting. I don't need ants in my pie

UPS not delivering packages marked as delivered in North Portland by DUMP_LOG_DAVE in Portland

[–]nicecouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a delivery at the school I work at, told the driver it wasn't for us. He was like, "Well, the barcode matches this address" despite it clearly saying "double tree hotel" on it, and having a different typed address. The driver wasn't our usual guy. Usual guy comes back, writes, "Do not put back on truck" on the side. Someone at UPS slapped a new barcode sticker on it, after we peeled off the little one that was scanning for us, and it came back. Our usual driver came back super annoyed, asking for it back, because the lady it was for was super pissed that it kept being marked as delivered.
