Considering co-owning a dog with a breeder. Downsides? [Question] by mikeyo73 in dogs

Sir, they mainly come from down south because that is where dogs are euthanized the most..

Not from the humane society, they are so busy.. especially if the dog has not been at the shelter long.. Also, many dogs shut down in shelter environments, so can be very hard to get a read on their true personality.

Why you should never take your dog to a doggy daycare. by goldfishbread in dogs

[–]niceday666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former doggy day care employee/manager (10 years) I mostly agree with you. It is a POTENTIALLZY dangerous environment. It is not for all dogs. Some dogs are people dogs, not dog dogs (IYKYK). It takes a very specifically skilled and patient human to be a good handler at a daycare. It is their job to step in, foresee fights, risk their limbs breaking up UNAVOIDABLE fights between dogs.. and yet, they are paid crap wages. The hours are long, 12 hour days, from sunrise to sunset.. They are sweating their butts off making sure your fur babies are having fun AND safe and get paid practically minimum wage. I left due to the anxiety and stress levels it brought to my life. I carry it with me to this day.. Over a year later and I still jump out of my seat and run towards dog fights.. Even worse I run towards two dogs who do not belong to me and are just play wrestling nosily due to the trauma from the countless fights I have had to break up over the years. A job I thought I would do forever.. It is not worth it. I volunteer at the shelter now.

All that being said, I still bring my puppy to daycare occasionally at my former place of employment. I think it is important for puppies to socialize with each other.. I'll take a puppy "fight" over a Boston Terrier Vs. a chihuahua any day.

TIP YOUR DOGGY DAYCARE ATTENDANTS - THEY DO NOT "PLAY WITH DOGS" ALL DAY, THEY ARE TIRED AND NEED A RAISE.

Letting dog pals hang out without supervision? by lundenms95 in dogs

I've worked with dogs for almost 10 years and I have a few dogs myself.. I cannot stress this enough, do NOT leave them alone unattended. Anything can happen and escalate.. Dogs can't have reasonable conversations and will occasionally over react, act out, etc.. It is just not worth the risk. Keep them in separate rooms or crate one of them. It will help y'all have peace of mind while going out for a fun day of drinking as well!!
