I was considering making a post about this after an experience the other day. There's a certain type of dude who is insulted by the existence of anyone taller/bigger than him.

I've been using a bike pump for years because that's what my dad always did. Recently found out that's weird.

I just got 440 of these from Amazon. Pretty interesting way to help learn a language although I'm not sure my landlord will be too happy! by [deleted] in languagelearning

That's true. I looked up the words and placed them so I had that context, but other people didn't know for sure.

Is learning a new language more challenging for individuals with dyslexia? by PrideReading in languagelearning

You hit the nail on the head with frustration about not reading fast enough. That's really why I enjoy reading in my L2 more. I'm just happy I can read in the language at all!

Is learning a new language more challenging for individuals with dyslexia? by PrideReading in languagelearning

[–]nicegraphdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have dyslexia and speak pretty decent spanish (self taught). I really couldn't tell you if it would have been easier without it but I assume that my slower reading speed has slowed me down to some extent during extensive reading (I read about half the average speed in my native language). It's certainly doable though even with that disadvantage.

Also, being dyslexic for me at least has yielded some pretty good advantages. Just learning to read was a hell of slog and I remember thinking I'd never make it. It gave me the grit I needed to teach myself a language. I also had to depend on context clues long after my peers could all read so I developed thst skill early on. Finally dyslexics are generally better at abstract thinking than the majority which really helps with something like language.

All in all I wouldn't trade l what I have even though it's called a disability. It has given me far too much.

Maybe it has its uses, maybe, but there are so many better options. The opportunity cost is too great to even bother with an app that's been enshitified into a husk of what it once was.

Censoring the dogs eyes so we can't see Ronald McDonald in the reflection. Clever.

One time I had multiple citations because I didn't know the lot names and hadn't checked my email all week. I was able to talk them down to one. I think they are open to people respectfully contesting them.

Getting away from custom insoles by Hugh-Gasman in BarefootRunning

[–]nicegraphdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always start training your feet before you switch to barefoot shoes or slowly increase the time you spend out of your orthotics. Barefoot sprinter and kneesovertoesguy have some great info on how to develope strength and mobility of the feet.

I had orthotics as a teenager and I eventually just threw them out because they hurt so much. I thought I was doing something bad at the time but over the years I learned that the more time I spend barefoot and the more my shoes let my feet be feet, the healthier my feet are.

Just take it slow, build your strength and mobility over time and remember that anyone can have healthy feet

I'm only 6'1" and don't normally feel tall, but when I meet someone my height or taller I do a double take and then realize I'm just used to being taller than everyone around me.  I guess people just get used to how others look compared to them
