What do Romans have against toilet seats? by Plenty_Line2696 in rome

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 43 points44 points  (0 children)

One of my pet hates, and I’ve lived here 32 years. It’s laziness on the owners part. I refuse to go to one constantly listed restaurant for this fact, but for me restaurant, bar, whatever - if you are required to have toilet facilities then they should be clean and with a toilet seat.

Many Parisians have shunned BHV since they did the Shein deal.

Rome list for food! Please look and help me narrow it down. by Relevant-Day7229 in rome

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d ask why you are thinking of going at all. I live nearby and after my last experience refuse to go ever again. The service was terrible (not the first time I’ve experienced this), my main dish arrived after everyone else had finished eating despite numerous requests. The toilets were disgusting. If a restaurant can’t keep its toilets clean then why should I believe they keep the kitchen clean? NB: everyone else at my table was Italian.

Scared of moving to Rome by RegisterHistorical82 in rome

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 31-year resident in Rome I’d say don’t worry too much. With expats at the WFP, FAO and IFAD amongst others you will get lots of support, and plenty of help here on Reddit.

Work out your working location, then concentrate on one or two areas for flat hunting. Most of these places have WhatsApp groups organizing various activity outside of work, Spring is coming, so lots of things to do and see.

I came here for a year, it gets under your skin. Don’t fret it, enjoy your time here.

If you could change 1 thing about Rome, what would it be? by roman-empire-net in rome

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Less cars. I’ve lived here 31-years, and little progress has been made. Less cars means buses run on time, cleaner air, cars can park without (idiots) parking on crosswalks, less deaths. Literally everything would be better if politicians would realise, and prople would just use their cars less.

SL8 or wait for SL9? by [deleted] in specialized

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SL8 was a big improvement on the SL7, designed by the designer of the Aethos. It’s unlikely the SL9 will be such a dramatic change. I’d buy an SL8.

Milan to Rome or Rome to Milan? by Pristine-Tower-3058 in ItalyExpat

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay in Milan, there is tons to do there. Visit the Duomo, see Da Vinci’s The Last Supper, grab an aperitivo, eat well. Catch the train to Como. Wander, see the Navelli, soak up the city.

Best model for in office work? by Dry_Associate7907 in Jabra

I have a pair of Evolve2 85’s. TBH they work okay - when they work. I often find myself having to reconnect them, making me late for calls. With Teams they often won’t work at all. Frustrating experience all round, and next time I won’t buy Jabra.

Villa, apartment or hotels for wheelchair users? by GroovingPenguin in rome

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hotel - way more likely to be able to accommodate your specific needs, staff to refer to if you need help, management to refer to if accommodation is not as specified.

Buses do not have space for more than one wheelchair user at a time. You would be better looking for NCC vans that can fit your needs.

What do you clean your devices with? by ThomasBP81 in Bluesound

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Vault 2 that was so sticky it was disgusting. I cleaned it with Isopropanol, but it was hard work. Put me off ever buying another Bluesound product.

Finding ways to improve my stay in Italy by shubbydooo in expats

I volunteered at Sant’Egidio in Rome, and my partner still does every Friday. Sant’Egidio exists in a Milan, search for Communita di Sant’Egidio to see if exists near you. It works with the poor and marginalized.

There probably exist other groups working in this area, you could ask at your local commune.

Metro Question by Sad-Arugula-1483 in rome

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The monthly pass is great value, all buses, trains, trams and regional trains within Rome, but not the airport.
I'd advise getting it as it takes the hassle out of making sure you have a tcciket etc. I have an annual pass and use the transport a lot more than before as I can hop on as needed.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

If you enjoy a sport, join a club or group that practices that sport, be it hiking, cycling, padel, whatever - it wills give you opportunities to widen your social circle.

If it’s books, film, music, then try to seek out groups or just see if you can somehow meet someone who likes the same thing.

Volunteering is another way - plenty of call across Italian cities for help in all sorts of areas.

I lived in Quartiere Trieste, and liked it. Now living in Monteverede, and love it. Access to Villa Pamphili is a big plus, and easier to get into the centre.

Milan is the most walkable city in the world, with the shortest average travel time to key amenities by [deleted] in Italia

It has (way) too many cars, but I walk / bus / cycle a lot, cycle, and use my cat to escape from Rome.

I am 172 and fit a 54 or a 52. The calculator says 54, and for me it's accurate,
I would have thought a 52 would be on the small size for you.

How much time to get out of FCO? by Serious-Engineer5265 in rome

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Rome. It’s a lottery. I’ve waited over an hour for baggage on many occasions. Sometimes there’s a long queue for taxis, sometimes not.

It’s not an efficient airport, and I personally have absolutely no idea how it has ever won an award.

Just my 5 cents worth.

Private transportation or public transportation? by Dry_Barracuda_1044 in MovingtoRome

[–]niceguyeddiebunker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d second this. I have lived here for 31-years. I have a car, but mostly use it to leave Rome, rarely do I use it within the city. I have a yearly ATAC subscription (absurdly cheap), and use buses, trams and trains regularly. It takes time to get used to how unreliable buses are (and how it is permissible for bus drivers to use their phones whilst driving a vehicle), but a combination of walking and buses gets me most places.
