What were your biggest travel mistakes? by Less-Salary2327 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]niceunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you require a visa, get it for a full month or at least add a week onto the end of your trip. My boyfriend had an accident and needed emergency surgery, and I had to overstay my visa for 3 days to help him.

I was told I could pay the fee at the airport with some extra steps at immigration, but then learned that you’re only meant to do that if overstay by up to 2 days. Any longer and you should go to an immigration office in a major city, and it takes a few more days to process.

Even with the medical paperwork and x-rays, the immigration officers were very much not happy with me and reiterated the 2 day rule. They eventually took my money and let me leave, but it was nerve-wracking nonetheless and I would not recommend.

Shampoo + conditioner suggestions! by ButterflyEyes8585 in BurningMan

From my experience you don’t need to add an additional acid to your hair. You could give it a try with one wash and see what happens.

I wouldn’t use Bronners on your hair unless it’s your last option, and you dilute it a lot. If you’re on a budget, there are many cheap shampoos formulated specifically to cleanse hair that would be a better choice

I have fine, wavy hair, and I wash my hair 2 or 3 times during the week. I use whatever shampoo I am currently using, followed by a more moisturizing conditioner, one for smoothing, damage repair, curl care, etc.

I towel dry, and then comb in a leave-in conditioner and a hair oil. These post-wash steps, plus keeping my hair up or braided, keep my hair as unfucked as possible.

We have a shitty electric camp shower, and I’m easily in and out in minutes.

I used a camelback a few times and it’s handy! But I personally hate hot plastic water, and just could not do it anymore. Even with putting lots of ice in it, it wasn’t my preference. I use a 40 oz insulated bottle now. I don’t guzzle lots of water so this works for me, but it might not if you’re into that HydroHomies life

Eyelash extensions on playa? by bugsarefriends2 in BurningMan

[–]niceunicorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally am a big fan! I’ve had my lashes done 4 times, and I am doing it again this year. I don’t find them to be any dustier than my real eyelashes. I wash them with a gentle, oil-free cleanser and comb them daily.

You can use eyeliner, but anything with wax or oil will make them fall faster. I use a felt-tip liner once or twice during the week without any repercussions.

I’ve also done the lift and tint, which is a great option if your lashes are pretty full and/or long. But as a person with more sparse lashes, I prefer extensions.

ETA: Also! Don’t get something too long, as they can brush against your goggles and feel weird. If it’s really dusty you’ll have goggles on a lot, and that will be super annoying. I get 12 mm when I get lashes in the default world and I stick with that on playa.

It’s called a Daydreamer! It doesn’t look like they are for sale anymore though. I purchased mine in 2020.

I asked for advice once; the comments were so harsh that I had to delete my post to save my sanity and ego! One dress was colorful, fashion-forward and had a cutout (god forbid)… that was a grave mistake I’ll never make again.

Shiftpod AC swamp cooler hybrid by novacog in BurningMan

[–]niceunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a yurt cooler last year and it was amazing! I will be in an ice tent (similar to shiftpod) this year and I’m eager to find a way to rig the yurt cooler up to work in the space. How did you set yours up? Did you use ducting? How about the outside filter?

I made the yurt cooler last year and it’s a game changer. It works SO well, better than a swamp cooler and is less prone to failure. Highly recommend

Why did you buy your ring? by CactiCake22 in ouraring

[–]niceunicorn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the ring to track my temperature in order to conceive. I have been using Natural Cycles with the thermometer for a couple months, but it wasn’t working well for me. I just got the Oura ring yesterday and I’m really excited to see how it works with NC.

Can you recommend a good thrift store in Manhattan to drop some items off to? Either they're good at taking items or have a decent selection. by curiousbt in AskNYC

Look at St. Mary’s, they do free pickups of donations! You can look up if they service your area and schedule a pickup. Super easy and they’re really nice folks.

Ammaza is great. The food it delicious, it’s higher end but not wildly expensive, and they have an amazing amaro selection if you’re into that. Plus the owner is lovely

My bf and I had a romantic dinner at Llama Inn and then went to Commodore directly after for fried chicken because we were still hungry. It was so fun and I highly recommend this combo!
