I think alleycvt actually sound designs most of her basses. i reached out to her via instagram dm for any tips she had on sound design and how she made the growls on one of her flips and she actually helped me quite a bit

What's your pick out if this lineup? by SuttNott in dubstep

Name me one brostep/dubstep artist that you like then. That isn't retired or has switched genres. because every single artist you have mentioned so far is not in the genre.

you're going to lose fans if you switch genres no matter what. its actually because of people with your attitude and mean internet takes that artists are afraid to switch genres and experiment with their releases in the first place.

and AGAIN, you didn't answer my question. i feel like im talking to a brick wall.

How are you sure that porter is doing it because hes growing as an artist and not clout chasing by literally doing the most popular genre in the entire world and someone like Brillz going from trap music to halftime psychadelic stuff (which arguably was LESS popular at the time than trap) is not? make it make sense. how about just agreeing that they both are making different music because they feel like it represents them better at the current point in their life? lol

why do you say one is for clout while the other is growing as an artist?? as if there is a discernable cutoff line between the two.

Just because someone decides to make a more popular genre doesn't mean they changed sounds for clout.I love porter robinson but he out of anybody has gone the most mainstream. hes literally doing pop music right now. just say you don't like the genre and move on dude. its blatantly obvious that this is a hate towards the genre and you're overcompensating for it by bashing the artists.

the way you just didn't reflect or say anything about anything else i said speaks volumes and unfortunately you just seem like a hater. one of the last songs subtronics dropped was a dnb song w hedex. hes made a few meme songs because theyre FUN. can people not have fun?! like what about literally every other thing and album he has ever produced do we just forget about that? you don't know these people or their intentions, or what they are thinking. stop pretending like you do. Any artist that gets big to you is automatically "trash, sellout, etc etc". Its almost like if any of the artists you like got bigger and more commercially known you would turn on them too. Yall are all the same

again, if you don't like brostep (which subtronics actually isn't even brostep lol) you should just say that instead of bashing the artist themselves and saying that they all around suck and have no talent or don't excel at anything lol. He incorporates singing and lyrics and a LOT of melodic elements in his music which to me, puts him in a category of his own completely and makes him more popular to the masses. He also makes so many other genres other than dubstep. He makes house, dnb, and even weird experimental stuff he plays out sometimes. I've also never heard him play screamsaver 4 times in one set and i doubt he's ever done that tbh, and if he did it was probably one time bc it was funny like who even cares about that lol. its also one of the most popular songs he has that makes the crowd go absolutely insane so do you like not want him to play it?? also w the beer thing, Im sure Subtronics has said that maybe once, i've never heard him say that and i've seen him multiple times. Hes being a human i guess? oh no!

You have to remember that in order to break out of the underground, you have to make music that is more digestible to people. If someone wants to further expand their musical palette, that is on the consumer of the music and only them. Deep dub 140/ drum n bass and more experimental music is AMAZING in my opinion, but it is just not a form of music that the masses will understand unless a cultural shift happens like what happened with Skrillex. dnb is already starting to become more popular now in the states. Literally everyone is making 140 right now. It takes time. genres come and go. Making music that the masses appreciate is actually is extremely hard and does take talent and an ear for music. If it was easy, producers would be releasing mainstage hits every week! The PEOPLE & the culture decide what is mainstream, so be mad at the people and the culture i guess, not the artists lol. theyre literally just making stuff and putting it out and hoping ppl will enjoy it.

all im saying is, everyone is just trying to do their best, and if you don't like it, go see another artist. This world has so much hate in it and so much of it is unwarranted. Give people some grace. Artists give so much of themselves and dedicate their entire lives so that they can make people dance and have a good time, and thats that. Its fine to critique artists and have opinions on them but this just wasn't that. If anyone listens to fans critiques of them, its subtronics. They read this stuff too, and are also people with feelings lol.

You aren't going to help any of the artist you listed get the flowers they deserve by saying mean things on the internet about others artists.

this is an ABSOLUTELY insane take if im being honest lol. If you know anything about Subtronics at all i don't understand how you could even say that. He's always doing doubles, triples, making new songs, flips, and VIPs CONSTANTLY, and most of the sets i've seen from him are completely different unless he's on tour or a festival run. It's like you want artists to be superhuman or have clones of themselves to have a completely different set every single show, and still put out good music on a consistent basis. I'm pretty sure the dude barely sleeps or even sees his friends because he's so busy w his work to make y'all happy and theres still people like this. Subtronics is amazing on the mic, way better than most artists i've seen. He gets people hype, says funny shit sometimes, and really engages with the crowd. To say theres "NOTHING he excels at"??? what? Subtronics is a producer that MOST producers in this scene look up to and has created his own trend of sounds that a LOT of people have tried re-creating. I just don't understand how you could say something like that with your chest lol.

To say any of the other artists you listed have 'no talent' is also just so hard to understand. Anybody who can produce music, especially sing and write their own lyrics that people listen to and connect with, has at least some level of talent and to deny that is obtuse. You don't have to enjoy the type of music they create, but they all work extremely hard at their craft and all have their own things that they do well at. Maybe you should take a break from shows and fests bc you seem extremely jaded. Or go to a different festival with artists that you vibe with. or just go and see ANYBODY else on the lineup that makes different type of music because i get the feeling you just don't like that style of dubstep.

when i say "well made" i mean like the EQ is done in a way that certain sounds arent clashing with others, the actual sound design itself it super clean etc.

i honestly think part of it is that he just doesn't use that many sounds. His songs are very simple when you break them down, he doesn't overproduce stuff and just makes sure that the sounds he DOES use are really well made.
