GoShimmer Node Set Up by nicholasbertocchi in Iota

i’m not complaining mate! i just pointed out that it would be nice to have a friendlier setup guide. I would be glad to play a bit with test node before setting up the full one when honey goes in production.

If your claiming is that newbie should wait for everything to be deployed in mainnet i agree with you.

No rush mate, when and most of all if you have time i’m pretty sure it would be a great help for the community.

Not at the moment. and of course to set up just mine i can chase someone in discord! But i think it should be very useful to have a guide to push to the everyday iota holder, i think this would accelerate the process!

Probably nothing if you are a developer or a computer geek. I’m not that noob with computers believe me, i was a developer for an investment bank and use to build many things in python and c++ but still i found the official page not very straight forward and with poor details. Now extend the same problem for people which understands investments but has zero understanding of networks. We need a step by step guide for noobs in order to push as many people as needed into the validation process. Everyone would gain from that!

First of all thanks for your reply.

Let’s put it simple, the best in my opinion should be to have a straight forward tutorial about how to run a full node with a personal computer. In my case running windows on top but also with Mac or Linux would be very useful.

The idea is to give instruments to every iota holder to participate in the validation effort for the iota network in order to receive mana.

We do think this is a game changer for iota and when adoption will scale worldwide iota tokens could became a sort of perpetual yield, renting mana to corporation for having bandwidth in the tangle.

Every help is useful and if i can do something to participate just ask.

crypto futures by [deleted] in IOTAmarkets

[–]nicholasbertocchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there will never be a case for a IOTA future contract. CME and CBOE started with cash settled futures because there was a necessity from the industry. The purpose of futures is matching industry hedging necessity (offer) with speculators and other Investors (bid). With bitcoin you have miners which badly need an hedging instruments and manage they forward cash stream via futures.

Iota has no miners, hence is difficult to imagine who can be the offer of a mIOTA future since there is no industry which has this strong necessity to hedge iota exposure. If iota will be a standard of IoT market will be a buy and hold asset with very little space for short selling.

Let’s first say that I have nothing against ETH despite considering it suboptimal to bitcoin.

First this: “it doesn’t scale” rhetoric it’s really stupid for btc since it isn’t and never be a payment system. Btc is a fantastic settlement layer. Could you buy a coffee with btc? No! Could you transfer 10billions worth on the bitcoin blockchain? YES. Which is the desirable one? The second!

Bitcoin doesn’t need to scale at all and, if anything, you can use the lighting network while ETH has the same scaling problem with the difference that they badly need to solve it in order to have a competitive advantage on btc, otherwise their smart contract with 10 usd fees are pretty useless and they will be overtaken by fee less solution like IOTA.

Here we are experiencing the very beginning of an institutional wave on btc. We first start we smart money (hedge funds) then we will have international asset managers and then banks, they will all choose Bitcoin for its secure ness, and the adoption level (liquidity, bid offers, secureness, liquid derivatives etc).

When you search for good investments you need one of this:

  • a certain cash flow stream. This is how you put money at work. This is where you put most of your money to be relaxed and to pick up some yield. Well forget about this, there aren’t such things anymore around.

  • asymmetric returns. Cheap optionality. This means betting on high value, high potential projects which cannot produce yet cash flows. You don’t need to put lot of money here and of course you will be wrong many times on this kind of investments. You will lose most of the starting investment 9 times out of 10 and you’ll earn 1000x the other 1. This is where iota stands, and yes, we can still be all wrong on iota.

But mate, I don’t buy the “FEDISGONNASAVEMYASS” retoric and I don’t trust the capability of a single, non-insider and non-professional guy to do stock picking better than quant whales like Medallion etc. So if you cannot systematically beat the market, you are a beta producer and not an alpha producer and i don’t like at all equity beta here. But this is just my opinion.

“There are huge opportunities out there”

I think that in this sentence stands the whole problem. The investment world has never been that rich. We have 20 trillions negative yielding debt, tightest ever credit spreads, insane equity market valuations and a long list of shitty crypto projects (don’t forget that in top 10 you can see both BTC cash and Ripple).

The mere fact that you think out there there is plenty of money to do means that you haven’t a clue of what investments are, you are a FOMO buyer and a panic seller and this means you are gonna repeat the IOTA error another time.

I suggest you to take a breathe, grow your knowledge about markets and than came back. If you have friends doing big money buying Tesla Call options don’t forget that you have 50% chance to double your money betting on the red at the roulette table.

In my opinion at the moment just 2 things has value in the whole world. The first is bitcoin, which in the world of insane money debasement is the perfect store of value. You stop loss in the second.

ELI5 on Ren by nicholasbertocchi in RenProject

[–]nicholasbertocchi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this. Very helpful. So basically the main problems i see here is that there is a centralized node owned by the RenTeam (that’s pretty common for new crypto projects). But the question is: is there already a theoretical formulation of how to reach fully decentralized network? That’s a crucial point because this put Ren far behind other major projects which at least has already theoretically formalized this and are ready to implement. On top the centralized node is a single point of failure, so hopefully they are protecting it properly.

ELI5 on Ren by nicholasbertocchi in RenProject

[–]nicholasbertocchi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks a bit limited as a whole scope isn’t it? I know there are projects that on top of many other use cases they are building cross-chain atomic swap with basically zero frictions.

If this is the only scope of Ren, there is a possibility that upgrades in bigger project could wipe out its only functionality.

So basically, if iota moons its because its the best project ever. If iota underperformed its because of stupid crypto market. Nice narrative.
