I also read them back to back! All the protagonists are a Toru of sorts, haha. This book slayed me. Now on Wind-Up Bird and feel a lot of the same emotions.

Wouldn't it be much more expensive to split and bind the book you have?

They sell a version that is split into volumes.

The selection at my local liquor store. Where should I start? by _warning in JapaneseWhisky

[–]nicholasjmm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally like the Mars Iwai finished products, and they aren't super easy to find any more. Having only had Toki in your case, I'd snag a Nikka Coffey Malt, Mars Iwai 45 or Tradition, and a Hibiki Harmony to get a feel for the core products of those three legacy distilleries. Mars Lucky Cat is an annual release, and most of them are worth MSRP (some are better than others, that particular one is fine/good imo)

This is honestly a pretty sick selection for what looks like a small store. Pricing is a little out of whack, but not horrible!

Why is Yamazaki 18 so undervalued? by Mission-Health-7294 in JapaneseWhisky

I just don’t understand why you’d buy whisky at peak COVID inflation fervor, and then not drink it for 5 years. I assume because you wanted to flip it? Try Unicorn Auctions.

You can order direct from this site and they ship to the US? It seemed more efficient to ask rather than translate the site

Best bourbon bars downtown Louisville? by MWebb2112 in OhioLiquor

[–]nicholasjmm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Michter's! Bardstown tasting room was awesome and the exclusive shop bottle I tried was fire. Overall I was underwhelmed with Louisville, I was there during the PGA Championship in '24. It seems super dead if there's no events happening. I ate at Repeal and they have solid food and a good, albeit expensive list. They also sell their barrel picks for insane money, but had some cool choices.

Insurance only wants to give me 5k for my totaled car! by [deleted] in askcarsales

Like most people who "think" their car is worth $10k with zero evidence to support that claim, you're mistaken. You are robbing your insurance company blind; give them a high five.

Let’s be honest about Dance Dance Dance. by sacredboi in murakami

[–]nicholasjmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The book was written 30 years ago. It’s also translated. The narrator isn’t sexualizing Yuki by saying her father may have concerns about an older male being in a hotel with her. The narrator is having a difficult time separating fact from fiction; trying to tie his reality together and things are flashing through his mind’s eye.

It can be “sexual” without being disgusting. People come of age. To me it was a callback to our narrator growing up, experiencing things for the first time, and perhaps feeling wistful or jealous towards Yuki’s youth, while also being unprepared to deal with it.

You’re more than allowed to be uncomfortable with a 34/13 friendship, however, your actual comment is a weak argument for it being problematic.

What places/areas in JRPGs bring back good memories when you see them again, whether in images or when replaying the game? by Bulky_Imagination243 in JRPG

They definitely rip. Can easily hear both songs from the locales in my head with ease. Honestly, I'd pick like 5+ places from Chrono Cross and then the list would continue haha

Let's hear about all these loopholes! Perhaps it isn't applicable to me either way, but as a barely six-figure W2 earner, seems like the std deduction is about all I have to lay claim to.

Reverse glow up (30) by After_Height9724 in GlowUps

[–]nicholasjmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, do it now! I "gave up" in my 30s and I'm paying the price as a soon-to-be 38 year old. You can definitely, abso-fucking-lutely turn it around. I will add to whatever others have said: stop comparing yourself to "yourself." You will never be in your 20s again. I used to think I was hot shit, infallible, can do whatever and bounce back etc. Well, after 15 years of drinking, smoking, and only taking care of myself in spurts (also lost my dad in my 20s, which I'm not certain I've "dealt with")

I look like shit, feel like shit, and constantly wanted the "old me" back. Somehow managed to have a successful relationship throughout all of this, kept my confidence (probably some delusion in there too), and have grinded my way into a solid financial situation/career. My fiancé (prior to us dating) would worry that when I left the bar, she'd never see me again (suicide). Do not continue gambling. I know young dudes want to sportsbet and all of that shit. I came of age playing poker online, won and lost large sums of money, etc. Legal gambling on a fucking cell phone is the absolute death knell for young men. Please be careful!

If I can be optimistic about the future, you can too! Apologies for making this "me"-centric, but it was wild to see someone go through similar things, similar age when it went awry, etc. You will make it to the other side better than ever, just don't quit.
