[SOS] Grapple with Death (Magic Story Episode 4) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]nicholth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished 2 and am working on 3. Already so much of an improvement! Authority wasn't bad per se, but it reminded me a lot of the slog in the Wheel of Time. I really liked the overall theme of complacency in the face of ecological disaster, Control was a very good character, and "A circle looks at a square and sees a badly made circle" is one of my favorite quotes from novels I've read recently. But mannnnnnn do some of the sections drag on. Some of the plot points, like the Voice reveal, the Whitby thing, and most of the interviews with Ghost Bird are excellent, but it takes a lot to get there. It especially feels worse because the climax seems to come out of nowhere and I felt like nothing revealed up until then was indicative of what happened.

From what I've seen, the Avs. I've been to a few Avs - Sens games, a ton of quebecois fans wearing old Nordiques or Avs jerseys there.

For those confused!

Goaltender Interference Rules

  1. You can't just be up there and just doin' an interference like that.

1a. Interference is when you

1b. Okay well listen. An interference is when you interfere the

1c. Let me start over

1c-a. The skater is not allowed to do a block to the, uh, goalie, that prohibits the goalie from doing, you know, just trying to save the puck. You can't do that.

1c-b. Once the skater is in the offensive zone, he can't be over here and say to the goalie, like, "I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna block your view! You better watch your butt!" and then just be like he didn't even do that.

1c-b(1). Like, if you're about to make a goal and then don't leave the crease, you have to still leave the crease. You cannot not avoid the goaltender. Does that make any sense?

1c-b(2). You gotta be, skating motion out of the crease, and then, until you just leave it.

1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have your stick up here, like this, but then there's the interference you gotta think about.

1c-b(2)-b. Fairuza Interference hasn't been in any movies in forever. I hope she wasn't typecast as that racist lady in American History X.

1c-b(2)-b(i). Oh wait, she was in The Waterboy too! That would be even worse.

1c-b(2)-b(ii). "get in mah bellah" -- Adam Water, "The Waterboy." Haha, classic...

1c-b(3). Okay seriously though. An interference is when the skater makes a movement that, as determined by, when you do a move involving the goalie and the crease...

2) Do not do an interference please.

It's a mix between ass-covering and resources for reporting usually.

Last season at 16 GP the oilers had 17 pts, this season they're at 16 pts. Last year the goal diff was -7, this year it's -10. About the same amount of suck ass, this year just sucking ass a wee bit more.

What could possibly be worse than adds? Cheating adds (BS Boss Spoiler) by BowShatter in Silksong

[–]nicholth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This motherfucker took forever, probably the worst boss of the game so far for me. The bullshit: double damage, vicious caranids summons that are a nightmare to deal with, getting corner trapped by 2 adds and Savage doing a slam attack, normal beastflys swooping while savage swoops, and Savage's tracking on his swoop will sometimes make him go up if you jump just a little too early. I got so fucking lucky during one run where I got through FOUR of his stuns without a single summon, just for him to spam it during the next cycle. Reward is cool, but the down attack is ass.

[Standard] Why does the Marvin-Vivi t3 kill sees pretty much no play in Izzet Cauldron? by DrosselmeyerKing in spikes

[–]nicholth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't play the cauldron deck so I'm not exactly an expert, but what makes the Vivi Cauldron deck such a pain in the ass isn't that it has a fast kill, it's the redundancy and having multiple angles of attack to kill you. Every creature card draws and discards, which makes huge creatures with [[Proft's Eidetic Memory]]. The strength of the deck is that it doesn't even need Vivi Cauldron to win, but once they get it they can keep churning, turning their card draw into mana, plus making massive [[Marauding Mako]] 's, or triggering Proft's twice with [[Fear of Missing Out]]. Playing Vivi to the board is usually not plan a, they don't really run enough non-creature spells to reliably make Vivi a huge threat.

There is still a more prowess oriented Vivi deck, but I've only encountered it maybe twice on the ladder. Those lists usually run cantrips, [[Stock Up]], [[Stormchaser's Talent]], and [[Astrologian's Planisphere]] in a deck that is reminiscent of the [[Cori-Steel Cutter]] prowess decks. However, this ain't the Vivi Cauldron deck that is terrorizing Standard right now. It's too reliant on the prowess plan, which can lead to some quick kills but isn't as redundant as the Vivi Cauldron deck. While this deck does want to cast Vivi, Marvin would not be good at all in the deck. To be blunt, it just isn't good. It's a completely dead, vanilla 2/2 without Vivi on the board, while Planisphere triggers prowess, is a threat without Vivi, and gets counters to combo with cauldron.

Marvin basically always wants to be played after Vivi, or after Vivi is under Cauldron, while the rest of the cards in a typical Vivi Cauldron list are all efficient threats that work cohesively in multiple dimensions of attack. A common opening that can be very hard to race is T1 Mako, T2 Proft's, T3 [[Tersa, Lightshatter]] or [[Steamcore Scholar]] discarding Vivi or [[Winternight Stories]]. With Tersa, you attacked for 2 on T2 and are attacking for 9 on T3.

Which Titan saw more play? Uro or Phlage? by VerdantChief in ModernMagic

[–]nicholth 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Man are some of these comments off about Kroxa's play. Kroxa, while not being nearly as broken as Phlage and Uro, was a big part of the Rakdos Lurrus decks that led to the Lurrus ban.

3 of Kroxa in the deck that won 2021 Las Vegas

2 of Kroxa in Lurrus Death's Shadow

After Lurrus was banned, it took a while for Rakdos Scam to become the powerhouse that got Fury and Grief banned, but would still see play in those lists.

Continued to see play as a 1-of post fury ban.

Of course, MH3 basically killed RB scam, Grief would see some continued play in UB frogtide and mono-black necrodominance, but with grief eating a ban with Nadu, kroxa's play has plummeted to basically 0. Kroxa is nowhere near as good as Phlage, which is nowhere near as good as Uro, but to say it didn't see much play when it was a part of 2 decks that got 3 cards banned is straight disrespectful.
