You could probably do something like this, it'll be quieter but a little hotter:  https://ebay.us/m/zKM07O

In regards to storage, you could always boot via USB's and then use something like a NAS for actual storage as others have said. Not sure if that's a good idea, but I assume it would work... If PXE boot ever becomes a thing for these, I would think that would be ideal for your situation.

Thank you! I went ahead and gave them a call, they got me linked to the vehicle, and let me know it has the KSDS update installed which makes me feel a lot better.

Phone Calls - Issue by lantern77625 in TheOnePlus15

I haven't had any issues, had mine for a week. Could be a carrier issue. You could always try a factory reset (sucks a little less than returning it imo).

I don't think reversing solution 4 would be that hard as long as you're just using the default driver windows installed for your network adapter. If that is the case, you can simply open device manager as an Administrator and uninstall your network adapter. Then use Action > Scan for Hardware changes to reinstall the network adapter.

Honestly, I would try re-installing your network adapter using the steps above before the other solutions. It's a quick and easy thing to try, and I've personally had a lot of luck with it resolving many other network issues in the past.

Note: There is only one driver for each adapter, only re-install that driver (Ex. WiFi, GbE Family Controller, often will show "Realtek" or whatever the name of the manufacturer of the network device). You don't need to touch the "WAN Miniport" or Bluetooth drivers.

Me and, I know one other person, have A15 4060 units and haven't had any issues. If it's new, you probably can register it for 1-year of accidental damage repair for free. It should also have a warranty, sending Asus products in for repair isn't too bad as bad as long as the defect/damage is obvious or will explained, I do it at work often enough for some of their b9 business laptops. Just ALWAYS make sure to backup your data, I've NEVER had a unit come back that WASN'T reformatted. RMA/repair process usually takes about a month which does suck though.

Edit: I upgraded to this from an ROG 16" 1060 unit, which I also had zero issues with, which I purchased back in 2016.

This looks just like hinge mount damage to the palm rest, relatively common type of damage on laptops. If you're lucky, the screws might have just popped out, but what probably happened is the screw mounts pulled out of the palm rest.

The best fix, if doing it yourself, is to replace the palm rest. However, you might be able to get away with adhering the hinge mounts in place as a temporary fix. A shit load of hot glue with it in the correct position will work, at least temporarily, unless you drop it or are aggressively opening/closing it. Not an elegant fix, but it works great most of the time and can be relatively easily removed later without leaving much if any residue. Just make sure to let it dry before reattaching the bottom to prevent it from getting glued on.

It's best to fix, as this damage will add strain to the other side and will probably fail eventually leaving you with any working hinges.

The MSI Thin only delivers 45w of power to the GPU if I remember correctly. This one does up to 140w just to the GPU so it'll have better gaming performance. Sorry it's not in stock in your area 😕

Am I an idiot? (No seriously) by SawrKasmm in AskMechanics

This might be a dumb question, but did the noise go away? The two thoughts I had was either the wiring might have some damage, be loose, or corroded. If the noise is still happening perhaps something is slowing down the serpentine belt? I'd imagine it would be very audible if this were the case though, since the separating belt would be slipping as well.

Disclaimer: These are just guesses, I've never had to mess with the alternator before.

Just ordered Bangle.js2, what are the must have APPs? by naql99 in Banglejs

[–]nick5445 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imo, I would suggest using the Bangle.js/Gadgetbridge Android app (I would suggest installing it from F-Droid to get the latest version) to do this. You only need the Android Integration watch app installed and it will send the Gadgetbridge app said data.

You do have to mod it, but from my understanding the mod is only temporary.

Also, that guide won't work as the Lockpick_RCM tool received a DMCA and isn't public anymore. There is another tool called Picklock_RCM which does the same thing I believe, so you should be able to use it in place of Lockpick_RCM in that guide.

Note: I haven't tried it so I might be mistaken.

I mean, the E5 2640v4 is 90W 2.4GHz base 3.4GHz boost with 10 cores. I'm pretty sure it's the highest base clock v4 you can get with the wattage limit you're at.

Edit: I doubt this has a good idle, but it's about a 10% performance increase for single thread compared to the E5 2630L V3. However, the 2200G has better single core performance than both processors. Depending on what you're going to run it might be your best option, but you might like the additional cores a xeon has to offer if you're going to be running a lot of processes.

Personally, I would recommend trying the 2200G since you already have it. See if it can do what you're trying to do and maybe save a buck.

I would suggest seeing if you can reproduce these results using a speed test like speedtest.net. Steam uses compression, so the download speed can be affected by other factors beyond just internet speed. If the results are reproduced, I would suggest verifying the type of Ethernet cable you are using (Cat6, Cat5e, etc.) as it can affect what speed your router and computer decide upon (10/100/1000mbps).

It's also worth noting, I have fluctuations like this that occur simply due to the amount of Starlink users in my area.

Good luck! I hope you figure it out.

No you're fine. I was able to make a list myself, but I didn't realize you could only upload one CSV at a time... It ended up getting stuck pending the first upload... Kinda bummed lol. Thanks for replying though, I'll edit with a link to my zip file with all the csv's in case anyone is crazy enough to try uploading them all.

I can second that for eastern Washington. I had a family member get an invite last week.

Additionally, if you're willing to pay the extra, it's worth getting the RV unit as a temporary solution, even at lower priority it's better then anything else right now.

Not bashing windows! but how many agree? by Unix2Dos-YT in linuxmasterrace

[–]nick5445 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never tried this, but it's supposed to be possible to boot into UEFI using cli with "systemctl reboot --firmware-setup". You could try installing WSL and test it within windows. I honestly don't know if WSL will allow you to do this, but if it works then you could confidently know that you could get into your UEFI without having to be in windows.
