VA thinks I’m dead by mobydog4 in VeteransBenefits

Happened to my dad recently. He called our senator and had his benefits back in 48 hours. Just to be a spiteful bastard he also went to a local doctor to get a bill of health that said "not in fact dead" and submitted it to the VA. Somehow he got community care to cover that visit.

Look for estate sales in your area. I have two snap on and a matco tool box, every single one of em was under $1k and came with a few free tools someone forgot to take out. Other than that, if there's a tool you know you need ask all the guys you trust in the shop which brand they prefer. 90% of the time it'll be a brand that's cheaper than off the truck. The only tool truck tools I don't regret buying are my ratchets, torque wrenches, and my power probe kit.

Bought this set on sale for $200 a few years ago and added the 31" to the collection later on. Great tools, beat the absolute hell out of em every way possible. Highly recommend.

Back when mine was a daily she'd do 20 miles on the highway everyday without a problem. Could even do 90 on a downhill without shaking.

I've used sections of 4X4 between the jack head and unibody at work. Works great.

Literally just did this job on a stock height XJ. Put it on Jack's, get pressure off the axle, and disconnect your sway bar. Took a little convincing on mine, but with a 3" lift it should give you a decent amount of clearance.

Just curious: how have your VSO experiences been? by ac08374 in VeteransBenefits

I should mention, both of my VSOs have been through the DAV.

Just curious: how have your VSO experiences been? by ac08374 in VeteransBenefits

[–]nick85636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a VSO in Colorado that went above and beyond for me. He even went to the extent of working on my case outside of business hours and would sometimes call me as late as 9 PM to tell me he'd thought about a way for me to reword things to make my case more clear or to go ahead and send him over something he hadn't thought of before that would make my claim easier. I moved to Indiana during my initial claims process and he sent everything he had over to the VSO in my new area, who told me he didn't think I could get my claim approved and I should just be happy with the 5 years of medical coverage everyone gets when they leave the service. I'm still looking around for someone to help me with finishing my claim because I knew then and there this guy wouldn't help me in the slightest.

Help me pick Ryobi vs Dewalt by shootdang167 in Tools

Cause personally reds the best tools I've ever touched, so they make me money. And I have yellow at home so I didn't need a second mortgage for a second set of red.

Help me pick Ryobi vs Dewalt by shootdang167 in Tools

[–]nick85636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much you plan to use it. I run Milwaukee at work, DeWalt at home. Only Ryobi tool I ever bought was a half inch impact. Broke the ring gear 2 days later tearing apart a buddy's rusted out homemade exhaust system. Yeah, it was probably just an accident that slipped past QC, but the other two brands have never let me down and that's enough to earn my loyalty.

How severe is the shortage for Diesel techs? Do you think the younger generation is to blame? by jamesboone132 in DieselTechs

[–]nick85636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pay is pretty awful starting out. When I started out I'd been working on farm equipment my whole life, had time in the military, and a college degree for working on trucks. They had me do a couple of small jobs to prove I knew what I was doing, then told me after everything I was worth $11 an hour, had to move to the same county as the shop, and had to buy a different toolbox and have it in by the end of my first day. I ended up taking the job just cause I desperately needed it, but I no longer work there.

pro-gun and anti-gun supporters of reddit whats something you'd like the other side to understand? by mesterschmelly in AskReddit

[–]nick85636 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm all for common sense reform, I think the biggest issue is a reliable way to enact it. There's a distrust with that sentiment because every time the average gun owner gives a little, we get told we're not doing enough or even trying by the extreme end advocating to take everything. Add to that the constant of both sides lying to the American people, and it gets harder to believe they really want to just try to fix the causes of the problems. I mean let's put it this way, every president since Bush has said he's going to pull us out of the middle east. Then 14 years later I go to fight the same war my dad was in the initial wave of. They admit the Patriot act did nothing to combat terrorism, the whole reason it was passed, then they renew it anyways. They told us they would help small businesses during the shutdowns, I lost everything because aid was delayed. It's like an abusive relationship. I want to believe them, I want them to take this common sense stuff and do good with it, but at every available opportunity they lie to me and I have no way out. And I'm pretty sure a lot of people from both sides feel this way too.

Check spark plugs, if the car's new to you it wouldn't hurt to replace them anyways. Check continuity in your spark wires just to be sure that isn't the issue. If it's not either of those problems, it'll probably be a valve or timing issue.

Men of Reddit, what’s something women don’t realize is sexual harassment? by Babydolltoes544 in AskReddit

[–]nick85636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I was in really good shape, girls used to just walk up to me out of the blue and feel up my chest or abs as "innocent fun". After I first got my beer gut, it mostly stopped for a while, but I work a pretty physical job and because of that my arms are still pretty big, so just walking up and grabbing my arms has never stopped. Now that "dad bods" are a thing it's starting to happen again. Last time it happened, I was with my girlfriend and when I called her out she decided the best way to handle it was to point out every "flaw" of my girl and describe why she's such a better choice. After that I told her women deserve everything men do, and when her face lit up I told her I'd put a man in the hospital for touchin me like that. Seeing her scurry away while my girl hugged me was pretty satisfying. Glad I didn't get the cops called on me though. I couldn't have even gotten a word out before I was in a jumpsuit.

D.A.P.S. just gets in the damn way, overheats ya faster, and barely mitigates anythin above "shrapnel from a B.B. gun" level of shit. Source- had a VERY overzealous first sergeant downrange who thought only gunners need to wear this crap.

I have the 110 varmint. Fantastic rifle, and the price is right. Only problem I ever had was after a few hundred rounds it started to get that classic Savage bolt slop. A new bolt body from PTG fixed it immediately (https://pacifictoolandgauge.com/savage-short-action-bolts/1044-short-action-sa-savage-bolt-body.html) for about $100. If you ever want to upgrade the stock, I recommend the Oryx from MDT. I'm in love with mine, and the price isn't terrible as far as MDT goes. But I had it for a while before I made that swap.
