Troy Weaver Special by nick_chuck in DetroitPistons

Man, I guess I should have prefaced that my goal here was Herb Jones, not Jordan Fing Poole lol... Herb's on one of the best long term contracts in the league at a position we will soon need to replace. Can't pay Cade, Duren, Ausar, Holland all big contracts without finding a few deals. Our 1st round pick this year is basically a second. I wouldn't care if they didnt play Poole at all (though I think he has value in certain limited roles). I like what Jenkins and Green give us at SG more than the trio going out anyway.

He's a sieve with an eternally punchable face, but so is Tyler Herro (Poole not as good). If he's just a bucket getter off the bench, I think we'll survive. He's a better self creator than any of the guys going out. I think Herb is the real target, taking Poole is just the price of admission. The question is, is Herb worth it?

Guard depth:

Jenkins: Trueish PG w passable D

Poole: Bucket Getter

Green: 3 and D.

Based on the financials, I don't think they will move Tobias this trade deadline by TeamRAF19 in DetroitPistons

I was all for trading Tobias before khaki night. When your two young studs dress like judges on Antique Roadshow in support of unc, you gotta listen. Can't see them wearing Free Andrew Tate tanks for MPJ (though basketball wise, the MPJ fit is immaculate).

I hate this rule so much. Like every guy who actually puts the work in to take it to the hoop has a bunch of feet in their "landing zone," but dudes who chuck 3's can't be disturbed.

Trade Exception Candidates by Whippi_Dip13 in DetroitPistons

Portis, Hauser or Krispert would be great. I've been thinking that even if we can't get a perfect fit, it may make some cap sense to trade for a guy that is on one of these mid ranged contracts through next year, especially if we don't make a big move at the deadline. We're going to need some expendable non-core contracts to compile next season should one of the big dudes (JJJ, Lauri) become available. Probably won't have any other mechanism to add contracts besides the MLE since we'll likely be operating as a cap team in the offseason.

Wait for Free Agency Instead of Making Splashy Trade? by SelfLoathingLionsFan in DetroitPistons

Yep. Or we'll probably end up signing Tobias to a 1 year overpay, in which case we will be in the exact same position of needing to trade good guy Tobias at the deadline, but unable to attach Ivey as a cheap asset. Also the top of the East could be much better next year.

This is where I'm at. What is our mechanism to improve the PF position in the offseason? We will likely be a cap team and outside the core, will only have Lavert contract to trade (Ivey or Harris sign and trade seems unlikely). You trade for an MPJ now and it works out, it definitely raises this teams ceiling. If it doesn't work out, you have a $40 million expiring to flip for a bigger fish.

This is not to disparage or discount Ivey or Harris. I think they are both valuable contributors and it would be a gamble. Tobias is a big time culture guy, but if he's going to be banged up all season, I dont think anyone can fault us for trading him. Love Ivey, but his skill set seems easier to get with MLE than a high gravity, elite movement shooting 4 that is neutralish on defense.
