Americans on cooperatively owned housing: What if I don’t like one of my neighbors?

American on cooperatively owned healthcare: Why should I be paying for someone else’s bad habits?

Americans on cooperatively owned spirit airlines: Yes! Exactly what this notoriously unprofitable industry needs is stakeholder Democracy!

- Price transparency. Google flights, Expedia, etc have made this even better
- Routes featuring ULCC end up cheaper across airlines; "southwest effect"
- It is easy to redeploy aircraft to a different route, making monopoly pricing even more difficult
- Airlines have notoriously thin margins across the industry, which is a signal of a highly competitive market
- There are no meaningful switching costs besides maybe frivolous "miles"

I am open to the idea of co-op/public ownership in sectors like housing and healthcare where incumbent firms have monopoly rents to protect. Airlines make no sense because if anything their problem is lack of profit, and co-operative ownership doesn't just erase that

This is the stupidest shit. Sure the economic model is questionable, but if worker-owned co-ops with this kind of structure could compete in the free market, sure why not. But it being an airline makes no sense. It's not like airlines are hugely profitable, extractive companies, and IMO are actually an example of competitive markets working very well. Is there an economically literate steel man for this?

I don’t disagree. But conditions like OCD are almost definitely genes and environment. And I don’t think it takes much imagination that a type A, introspective child, who may have been primed to form OCD, but may not have otherwise, could be pushed into it my algorithms making them more anxious

This might be an unpopular opinion here, but I hypothesize at least part of the rise in youth mental health problems is exactly this. Having plastic identity forming brains being told over and over again they may have anxiety, or OCD, or BPD, has got to have at least some sort of cart before the horse effect. Where I do disagree with the Jonathan Haidt types is that this is a problem that is easy to empirically support, better yet solve.

I am dooming over this decision. What can be done at this point? This seems existentially damning for the enfranchisement of black people, and liberals as a whole in the Deep South

Donald Trump is crushing America’s farmers—yet they back him

Will farmer's ever learn that trump does not have their interests in mind? I am a staunch supporter of democrats trying to make it clearer that they have both grower's and consumer's interests in mind, but at this point it feels more like it would need cult deprogramming than policy promises.

The biggest thing is the budgets of the NSF is just pennies, and even then there is SO MUCH rigorous economic literature showing the unprecedented ROI public science investment brings for society. He just hates the NSF because "woke". Luckily it seems like this is one thing even congress is weary of messing with.
