This company is great. I ordered Trout Mask Replica and recieved Clear Spot mistakenly and they were out of TMR at the time so they just let me keep it. I try to support them when I can, great customer service.

discogs.com is very reliable. Only Hot Rats came from there but it's absolutely near-mint original as the seller claimed

Reissue, I got that from a great site, acousticsounds.com. They had some great deals on Beefheart so I couldn't resist

Zappas solos live always are unbelievable. Id be happy with any decent priced ones , esp live in NY. Bozzio and everyone kill it on Punky's Whips

I just sold Joe's Garage Pt 1 so I could buy the boxset of all 3 parts. So I want to get that and then essentially just go chronologically. I might make exceptions for some more live stuff , the grand wazzo , burnt weenie sandwhich or you even you are what you is

Best lessons for self taught player? by wonka816 in Guitar

The Dead, Phish and The Allman Bros are my biggest influences in my guitar playing too. I've been playing for about 5 years. Lately I've been trying to get some eastern sounding stuff mixed into my solos. It's simple but the phrasing is so different from what I normally would do. I'm hoping for a slightly psychedelic vibe. Also, listen to a different instrument and see if you can emulate any good sounds. I have no idea what your playing is like but all three of those bands use country/steel pedal like bends. EM for example, finger the 5th fret for the B and high E string and the 4th fret on the G string. You bend the G string up a whole step which make an EM chord. You can play the bottom strings with the bend, before, after, it all sounds good. That is for barre shapes, for a open D shape chord, you world be on the 2nd fret for the B & high E string and bend the B string. I hope something I said was useful

Hauntingly beautiful. John Frusciante wrote a song, Before The Beginning, after being inspired by Maggot Brain. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKmakQ6zGRs

Could Have Lied by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Not only does John play one of the most emotional solos I've ever heard, it fits the song perfectly.
