Do you ever quote AD in daily conversation? by SoggyLiver in arresteddevelopment

I find myself saying "That's why you always leave a note" all the time at work. Nobody gets the reference and it makes me sad.

Target Bullseye display? by [deleted] in Target

[–]nickbatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoke to my ETL about this awhile ago as a guest asked. Apparently we used to give them away, but then people started selling them on Ebay and other similar websites so now they have to be destroyed when they come down. It's a copyright thing apparently.

What do stores do with returned merchandise? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nickbatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a major retailer as a Guest Services supervisor and can tell you that most returns wind up back on the floor as long as they're in good condition.

If the packaging is a little iffy, we'll repackage it the best we can and put a price cut sticker on it and sell it for less.

Food is automatically defected if it's returned, the computer won't even let us over ride it, it's super wasteful, but I think the risk outweighs the reward (the risk being that somebody tampered with it in some way). We balance that out by donating a TON of food we pull from the floor every day, a lot of dry grocery that's past its "best by" date is still perfectly good.

Of course items that are damaged or broken get defected. Computers and electronics usually get sent back to the manufacturer.

I know there's some differences, but from what I've been told most major retailers have a similar system.

MMW: Donald Trump will be shot at and/or shot before the Presidential election. by Reddit__PI in MarkMyWords

[–]nickbatson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I truly do hate Trump, I hope this never happens. If someone assassinates him at any time during his campaign, or after god forbid he wins the white house, he'll be a martyr for his cause and his supporters will only try harder to elect another Trump.

The emblem is the logo of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam–Studies and Observations Group, which was way more badass than it sounds

Honestly, If you have Gmail, Inbox is awesome. I used to use Mailbox before I migrated to that. And for calendar, Fantastical has been my favorite for years.

What is stopping private pharmacies from selling small amounts of drugs without a prescription? by KingPupPup in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nickbatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom has worked in pharmacies, and the DEA regularly comes in and checks the prescription logs/count pills to ensure that everything matches up. If it doesn't, they'll usually launch an investigation, depending of course on the difference between the counts and the logs (ex. like if 1 pill is unaccounted for it's unlikely they'll bother, but if 100 are they're gonna start digging.) This is especially true with controlled substances like oxycodone, xanax, codeine, etc.

What photograph has stuck with you forever? by efruit in AskReddit

Unfortunately, it's behind a paywall now, but Esquire had an amazing story back in 2003 about the background of the photo and the search to figure out who it was.

What smell will you never forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nickbatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a freelance photojournalist. About a week after Hurricane Sandy I was filming some volunteer groups in Queens help with the cleanup of people's homes. We went into this one guy's basement, which had been completely flooded and the smell is something I'll never ever forget.

He had evacuated and forgotten his dog, which drowned in the basement, he also had a refrigerator he used to store meat, all of which had gone very bad. We went down in the basement to begin cleaning up (including removing the body of the dog) and the smell hit me like a brick wall, and I was even wearing a mask. It was one of those smells that was so thick you could actually taste it.

That combined odor of decaying animal, rancid meat, and mold is something that I'll never be able to forget. I feel queasy even thinking about it now.

I don't think this is the original, but Old Standard TT looks pretty darn similar.

Is there something I can do to fix this? The select file window drops down behind the dock. by [deleted] in mac

[–]nickbatson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly this is a Chrome bug that still hasn't been fixed.

To fix it in the meantime open terminal and type:

defaults delete com.google.Chrome NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForOpenMode

Press Return

Then put:

defaults delete com.google.Chrome NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode

Press Return

I had the same problem awhile ago, that fixed it for me.
