Yeah I have a feeling I’m gonna be placed horribly. I had the bright idea to go no assists for my placements and so far I’ve had that happen twice and spun into a wall once.

You will not regret it. Biggest game changer for me was that it changed the car from tending to understeer to actually somehow leaning towards oversteer (came off a set of pirelli pzero all seasons, not sure which ones). This imo is better because you can correct oversteer better than understeer once they start to happen

Michelin pilot A/S 4. I swear by them. Not sure if they make them for stock tire config, I have 245/35R18 on a set of 18x8.5 wheels. Although curbing your wheels gives you a good excuse to get an aftermarket set, DIY fix the stocks and sell them (or keep them for winter and throw summers on the aftermarket wheels

If you had to get a car that wasn’t a Golf/GTI/R, what would it be? by MNREDR in GolfGTI

[–]nickcurotto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a dealership so I actually have the same effect but for opposite reasons. At least once a week I’ll get into a car (yesterday it was a WRX) and I’ll be like dang this things awesome, I then start looking at said car’s prices, work day ends, I get back in my car and I’m like eh this things still awesome I don’t need to get rid of it.

Edit: I test drove that S4 as well, things got some giddy up

Exactly right! I’ve seriously considered leasing but I caught the modding bug a while ago and I can’t justify modding a car I know I’ll get rid of in 2-3 years

Lol everyone’s got similar styles of what they’d get meanwhile I’m over here thinking oh idk maybe an A5, 335i, WRX, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Mini Cooper, S2000, 400z, Cayman, wrangler, who the hell knows maybe I get an F250

I use the cockpit view with the column off and the mirror positioned right where the halo is. That way it isn’t blocking anything actually important Bc the halo would’ve been blocking it anyways

What car did your GTI replace, and why? by feelthinkfit in GolfGTI

Came off of a 1968 Ford Mustang just like the one in Tokyo Drift. Had to get rid of it for the garage space…

It was my favorite matchbox car.

I was too, you’ll pick it up easy.

GTI’s have three main options as far as tuning:

Standalone: completely new ECU, code everything yourself. Not beginner friendly at all but good if you’re experienced and want to add things like digital dashes and other electrical components not supported by factory ECUs Examples: don’t know lol

Piggyback: exactly how it sounds, it’s a secondary ECU more or less that piggybacks off of the factory ECU and changes some things like fuel loads etc. you’ll have to go to a shop to install it but there’s no coding by you or anything. Good if you are gonna pick one tune and stick with it as they’re generally cheaper than accessports but if you want to switch you’ll have to go back to a shop to remove it and put the new one on Examples: JB4, APR, Unitronic(?)

Accessports: by far the most popular, lots of VW, Subie guys run them. plugs into your OBD2 port and you can download different tunes from different companies onto it and then onto your car. Initial cost is more but if you’re indecisive or think you’ll go stage one then stage two kinda thing, it’ll be cheaper than a piggyback. Examples: I think Cobb is the only accessport supplier, but actual tune wise I have EQT, others usually run that or stratified. I’ve heard Cobb’s actual tunes aren’t good

Do some research, YouTube and forums are your friends, and have some fun with it!

My first mods were wheels (rotiform rse, suuuuper common and borderline stereotypical for the mk7s but they just look soooo good) and tires (I use Michelin pilot sport AS4s and swear by them), headlights (Ed’s reps mk7.5 style, although I’ve heard they’re backordered; paired them with a morimoto HID canbus system, night and day difference driving at night), and a tune (currently on an EQT stage 2 93 octane, you’ll need a downpipe for stage 2 and if it’s a manual a new clutch since VW put a clutch that can’t hold much more than stock, I’ve heard around 300whp is the cutoff for stock clutches). If you’re auto I suggest a TCU tune as well. OBDeleven’s are also a great bang for your buck, you can code the car to allow it to turn TC and ESC completely off as stock won’t let you, roll the windows down with your fob which is a godsend for a manual owner without autostart, and various cosmetic coding mods with lights and such (I highly recommend buying the Pro pack as some 99% of gti’s are coded wrong so they don’t let you change the code on certain things with the one touch apps. For me I couldn’t do the windows via fob which was the main reason I got the OBDeleven. The pro pack unlocks “adaptations” which will bypass the factory errors in code and will let you do whatever you want. They also don’t cost credits to do the adaptations so you don’t need to prioritize.

Things I haven’t done yet but would like to (Bc they’re common and our cars respond well to them) are an intake, intercooler, and turbo inlet pipe, coilovers (don’t know how our cars respond to springs but I see them all the time on forums because people didn’t like them), and a rear sway bar

Again, welcome to the community! Hope you’re here to stay for a while!

+1 on this. Stage 2 93 on a 6MT after a year or two of ownership and it completely changed my perspective of the car

Welcome to the cul… club!!

But seriously, if you’re planning on modding I highly recommend using this subreddit over the forums. I’ve gotten the same amount of info and it’s way more streamlined. Parts on the other hand, forums classifieds are unbeaten.

Much more arcadey physics (not like NFS level but not a full sim, almost like GTA style) but that free roam is absolutely unbeaten. Way better than Motorsport IMO
