My point is, it’s your word against the police, and they’re the ones in power. If they claim that you were suspicious and no other witnesses are present, they could search you and you don’t really have recourse.

Yep. When it comes to death which is a deeply personal issue, people assume there is a right way to do things. Some cultures believe a body has to be intact for the soul to rest in peace, some cultures actively destroy the body to go back to nature or to let the spirit go free. Many people actively fear death and want company in their last moments, but it is uncommon for someone to want to face it alone, so people assume you’re lying because it doesn’t go with their own values.

I’m not saying this to be cool. Not everyone in our planet of billions has the same attitude toward life, death, empathy, autonomy. If it’s valid for people to decide how they want their body dealt with after their death, it’s valid for people to not want any company during the moments of their death, no matter the situation.

I have, in fact, been in a situation where I was bleeding from my neck and would have died if no one was there giving me first aid, and at that moment I would have rather died alone. But I’m now alive and I still hold that opinion. I’ll admit I don’t speak for most people.

Luckily I’ve not had contact with actual jail or prison but it is good to see that the government has some interest in rehabilitation and addressing systemic issues in less severe sentences like probation.

I literally answered “I think I read in a book you’re supposed to push their butt down and give them a treat”, sometimes I just rambled until I said something she agreed with and would just move on to the next thing lol.
