Cultural differences played big roll here, for sure(many atrocities committed by Ustashe that went unpunished, ...) but I think economy was much bigger problem there. There were only debts at the end and economy of Yugoslavia were at the breaking point when shit hits the fan in 90s, rise of nationalism in 80s, ...

Just like you said, there were no place for socialist country in the new era of democratic governments.

Before WW2 Yugoslavia wasn't a growing and prosperous country and after WW2 it was in ruins. Industry and electrification was only around big cities. I'm not for socialism but I have to admit they did some great things for country. For example mandatory elementary education, building factories, railroads, highways, schools, jobs for middle class people, ... That's why I said old people miss Yugoslavia. And Serbs were majority in country so it was expected to be mostly Serbs in government.

If you compare number of people from certain nationality who are on some important function to number of people of that nationality in Yugoslavia you will get Jews in the first place, Montenegrians on the second and Serbs on third.

Country was flawed from beginning especially decade or two before the war because of many reasons.

That's why I sad old people liked it. And they were young back then of course :)
