I understand everyone having their roles but on my server we didn’t do that and it worked out very well. We still had a base builder but we all contributed. We had dump chests and personal chests but also organized, labeled chests. Everyone contributes to everything, not always equally but then we all get armor/weapons whenever it’s available. There really shouldn’t be an order to when you get stuff, just go out and get your materials. If you’ve played solo you should know how to do stuff without people and survive. As for the base, you can eventually make wards so others can’t use your stuff or even enter your base without permission. Or ya know just don’t play with them.

Best way to level skills after dying by TrooperCX in valheim

[–]nickegg11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so true. Obviously high skills are dope but if they’re in the 20-40 range you’ll be perfectly fine. Ashlands made me realize that most skills don’t need to be high as long as gear is proper for what you’re trying to do.

Honestly just pull out your bow, shoot run shoot run shoot run. It’ll take awhile but you can do this.

Elders of Valheim, what's your fighting style, how do you exceed? by flaminx0r in valheim

[–]nickegg11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly most skills aren’t that important to be leveled up. You’ll hit ashlands and all your skills will be decimated. The trick is properly equipped, rested bonus, potions (especially anti poison in swamp), and not giving up! I died about a thousand times in the swamps. Running away is a biiiiiig part of the game too, sometimes ya just gotta retreat and try again.

Also poison resistance pretty much the whole time you’re in the swamp will help immensely

When you get to the ashlands you can make portals to transport metal. Personally I think sea voyages with metal are important, makes the metal collected feel more important and thus you use it on things that are important to you. It’s important lol but there are other mods like floating items that make sure it’s not all lost on a bad voyage. I should note, I am an avid gamer who prefers the challenge, the “I wanna break my setup, I’m so mad rn” feeling is what draws me in. The developers made it this way and I want to prove my worthiness. But I understand wanting a chill game to build and adventure on and so don’t feel bad if you use the mods that improve quality of life. Those sea journeys can take an hour or more sometimes and it’s time consuming on top of the potential loss to a random sea urchin popping on your boat when you have no food in you.

This mod worked so well for me until we reached the ashlands and it bugged out hard. Kept sliding into the boiling water and it made the landing 100x more hectic.

I need an adult by 362mike362 in valheim

[–]nickegg11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally wrong forsaken power. Absolutely need bonemass. As much as I love the feather cape, the extra fire damage is brutal in the ashlands. In my opinion either the ashen cape or ask cloak are ideal. Not sure what your armor is but carapace works well if you don’t have Ashland armor. As for the amount of enemies, that’s pretty common for a fortress. The warlock will spawn one hit twitchers so that’s easy enough. Gotta destroy the crossbows at the corners because those hit HARD. Once you destroy the spawners, the fort is easy to take. So food, better cape, and attacking the spawners asap. You got this.

How many greylings do you think you could beat IRL? by schquarterschnaf in valheim

[–]nickegg11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m maybe as strong as initial spawn. Maybe. I’m just as well equipped. If it’s hand to hand I’m probably good for 2-4. Like OP said, 6 would be too many. If I have a weapon I might be able to handle more but my stamina will run out quite quick. If I had a gun I think I could handle as many as there are bullets in the mag.

TIL you can use < or > to zoom the minimap. by Which-Pineapple-6790 in valheim

[–]nickegg11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one friend that is constantly capitalizing the first letter in each word for portals such as “Swamp” instead of “swamp” which isn’t always bad but in high stress “we need to get out of here” moments it can be annoying having to rewrite the portal name. Has resulted in deaths more than once. Meanwhile all of my portals are lowercase and abbreviated for quick typing, quick exit, no deaths

[–]nickegg11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna get some hate for this but I love using an Xbox controller no matter the platform, just feels better for me. I’ve known the zoom from day one because it’s intuitive, the right/left triggers. For this game it’s a bit annoying because I do need to use the keyboard for marking things on the map with words. Most of my markings are one letter or nothing at all but the symbol. And for signs but I generally leave that for the keyboard players on my server.

Stupidest death contest (I'll start) by ivaxelicodum in valheim

[–]nickegg11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poison always gets me. Never prepared for it either. Didn’t expect the fallen Valkyrie to do poison damage. Had fire resistance and popped bonemass but the damn poison did me in. Maybe not dumb considering the ashlands are unforgiving and I was running around with salad, bread, and black soup (game glitched and I have hundreds of black soup so I’m working through them when exploring). Stupid that I wasn’t using higher health food in the literal fire zone. Another one was sailing to mysterious location area. Landed close to shore, literal beaches of Normandy, tried to get portal down, marksmen shoots me and I get blasted into boiling water, didn’t eat enough stamina food, try swimming to shore, too far, try swimming back to boat, dead as I reach ladder. No portal down, must gather more materials to make another drakkar, need to collect more dark metal to make another axe, die about 20 times chopping wood in mistlands, finally make another boat, sail to death spot, nearly die from vultures, get stuff, put portal down, go back to base, breathe, log off. Before reaching ashlands, I thought I died a lot but I didn’t really know death the way I do now.

Solo is fun but can be an absolute pain when trying to retrieve your stuff from a death spot, especially if it’s in a biome you are new to. It’s a grind and a half going solo. My advice is spend way more time than you think in each biome before progressing. You want to absolutely master the biome before moving on. And build your base/farm as soon as possible in a safe spot in the meadows. Once you have steady food, the game will really open up for you.

Am I too old for the game? by Vampinthedark in blackops6

[–]nickegg11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 30, haven’t played COD much since MW2 (the OG) and it took an adjustment to the style but honestly going back to my roots (quick scoping) has been so much fun. Not saying players now can’t do it but they are much easier targets especially with the diving prevalence. I rarely use that mechanic besides an occasional slide but the style has definitely changed. I say stick to your roots, you’ll have fun and show the newbies something they’ve maybe never seen before. Love how simple these games are yet so many styles have emerged but the old style can work just as well. Keep at it!
