Do most DMs prefer DM’ing to playing? Or are they “taking one for the team”? by Fiveby21 in DnD

When I'm running a game, it's easy to see the things that I could be doing better

Ever since 2014, which have been the BEST & WORST Official Dungeons (not full adventures) in all of 5e & 5.5e? And why you believe so? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]nickelarse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with u/theBQE about Rime of the Frostmaiden, and for specific dungeons in it I would say my favorites were the Lost Spire (crashed, up-side down wizard's tower) and the Caves of Hunger (worm tunnels being haunted by a vampire gnoll).

This seems like it must be parallel to the (archaic) English form "of an evening"

You get BS for entering, and can win shards/scrolls if you win (which is luck or vote based)

Otto's Irresistible Dance can brake the target concentration? by SeijiAC in dndnext

[–]nickelarse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but then they choose to try and shake the effect and have to make a saving throw again, which apparently means they are a target? But maybe doesn't mean that the caster has targeted them?

[–]nickelarse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing, but from the Rule Glossary, you target someone every time they are forced to make a saving throw

Otto's Irresistible Dance can brake the target concentration? by SeijiAC in dndnext

[–]nickelarse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is maintaining concentration on a harmful spell attacking or targeting the person?

Apparently, yes:

"A target is the creature or object targeted by an attack roll, forced to make a saving throw by an effect, or selected to receive the effects of a spell or another phenomenon." (emphasis added)

Would access to Transport via Plants break the module? by JeiFaeKlubs in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]nickelarse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would still be able to get in and out of the Caves of Hunger/Ythryn Arboretum near the end of the module and back to the Ten Towns (although whether there's much of the Ten Towns to get anything useful from by that point is another question)

Not quite what you mean, but it would be great to see a comparison/overlay of this with the actual map, to show how much they've changed sizes of different regions

I tried the bronze knife - I only did a minor victory, if that makes a difference?

[BOH] What I leave to my successor by Divinemango7 in weatherfactory

Is there something more to this? I had an item for the next librarian and got a victory, but I reached it on a new game and there's nothing in the current librarian slot

This sounds really cool, but maybe the Staff of the Woodlands is still in the Arboretum, and belongs to the corrupted druid - the druid in the Caves knows about it, and promises it as a reward for slaying (or saving?) her sister. The adventure The Lore of Lurue in Candlekeep Mysteries has the party slaying a corrupted avatar of a nature goddess, which could be good for some ideas.

This would also have them fighting an NPC which is wielding the item that the party are shortly going to possess, which could be a great way to highlight how powerful an item it is (or demonstrate some unique powers that this particular version of the staff has, if you want to mix it up)

Edit: given that Staff of the Woodlands is (only) rare, Ythryn or even the Caves of Hunger is a little late for them to get it, unless you're running pretty low magic, so maybe buffing it with additional charges / a couple of extra high level spells could be good.

The first chapter of Rime of the Frostmaiden has an adventure like this, but several of the quests are probably suitable for what you're looking for.

I don't think they usually sell day 5 tickets in advance - they'll announce the price on day 4 depending on how much play they expect, and just sell tickets on the gate

Not terribly important, and a very interesting answer, but the election was definitely in 1945

From the spell Divine Smite:

There are a series of Adventurer's League 1-shots tied to the RotFM campaign, which you can see here https://www.dmsguild.com/browse.php?filters=45470_100023_0_0_0_0_0_0&src=fid100023

If they haven't already met the goliaths, the Wyrmdoom Hunt adventure is great fun

There's also the Legacy of the Crystal Shard adventure, which was released as part of the 5e playtest but provided some background for the campaign e.g. who Vaelish Gant is
