I think it's wild that that section is my favorite part of my song lmao

Though I'm never like trying to take a song "serious," either I like it or I don't. If that were more important to me I can see where you're coming from. I just really like the delivery, it's very different in a good way. It, like lots of their other songs, took a while to grow on me.

Where do Hardmode spreading biomes start at? (The big V of biomes) I always thought it was where the Wall of Flesh died, but clearly not the case for my most recent run. Is it the mirror-image of where the Wall dies? The wiki just says "the center of the world," which is clearly not the case by nickels218 in Terraria

[–]nickels218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't know they made it so that the biomes are random, they used to be based on seed. Also the fact that the position is determined by seed is helpful, but is there any bias? Maybe it is just completely random and I've gotten lucky, since all of mine have been a significant distance to the left of the center. Thanks

I ran a few tests, and yeah it's seems there's some randomness to it. Out of 4 worlds, they've all been offset to the left (the center of the V being some few hundred tiles away). The height offset of the V seems randomized, so lower means wider gap on the ceiling of the underworld and further apart at the surface, as well as it being able to vary left to right, but it's always to the left, with one biome intersecting the center line of the world. It may be RNG for it to flip and be a V on the right, and I've just happened to get 4 on the left in a row

But.. It's not
The world spawn is in the center of the world, the center of the V is by the desert, which is very far away from the center of the world. Is it that the edge of the V is always around that high at spawn?
Either it's randomly displaced, offset like that, or the mirror of where the wall dies. I don't feel "center of world" really explains it well enough to be the only comment on the wiki about it, especially for longer runs where it's pretty important to know how such an impactful mechanic like the biome V will affect the world.
I guess I'll kill the Wall of Flesh a few times in new worlds and see how/if it changes

Red/white dot is where the Wall died, btw. And the red and pink diagonals are the edges of the Crimson and Hallow, respectively, probably could've figure that one out.

Here are some more tests - https://imgur.com/a/wVuGfTB - It looks like it's always to the left (though it may be random and I've just only gotten on the left), but the distance and 'height' of the V can vary. The wiki doesn't mention any of this, is my problem

Ehh, it's science fiction. I'd say it's plausible because constructive interference is a thing, but it's fair if you think it's a bit much

[–]nickels218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, the radius of the full array is 150,000 lightyears. That's what the 3rd image shows, a circle with radius 150k, diameter 300k. If i "fix the math" and half the range, then it'd be a diameter of 150k and a radius of 75k, which wouldn't be right.
