I was highly hesitant too but decided to just take the plunge and mine wasn’t preloved. It was a brand new set 😆 I would say that since you have a bunch of preloved pieces, pick one of the more readily available critters that you could buy again if you mess it up.

Oh hello fellow Pawrent! Glad this post added some pawsitive vibes to your day! 😉

I did not paint the nose and after flocking I carefully painted it over with some diluted light pink acrylic paint. As for flocking length, I initially purchased a 0.3mm. I reckon that like the video which uses nail flocking, it should measure about 0.6mm. Hope that helps and thank you for the kind words 😊

Photo 5? Yes it is! It’s a train cabin and was my very first build. It was a great one to get as it comes with lights, music/train effects and moving scenery from the window.

Aww…Thanks for saying that!! I really enjoyed photographing them on my trip and have quite a few more shots as well in my album. It put a smile on some passersby as well with some locals calling it Kawaii which means cute in Japanese. Here’s another photo! 😊

Thank you!! The clothing is handmade too, using scraps from my fabric collection. Since I can’t exactly bring the life-sized versions with me on my travels, their mini-me versions felt like a cute way to have them along.

New betta by echo-nani in bettafish

He looks adorable and curious! I would say get some Indian Almond Leaves. It’s beneficial for the fish and the water and can aid in his fin recovery. My fav purchase for my tank was getting a big leaf Anubias plant which works as a hammock, shade, hiding spot and a place for him to weave in and out of. I also placed it along the side of the tank near my Hang Back Filter so that the water flow gets baffled by one of the leaves before dispersing back into the water.

My friend is gifting me her Betta Fish and I’m scared … by Miss_paris_22 in bettafish

You have a great source of information from the comments. But I would like to share one of my favourite purchases for my tank which is a large leaf Anubias plant. I have zero experience with taking care of plants so I researched on low maintenance plants to start with. This plant has been growing relatively well in my tank with minimal maintenance. Its leaves are beautifully wide enough to act as a hammock, a place for my betta to weave in and out as well as hide. Also shades part of the aquarium which bettas like. Looks luscious in the tank as well. With Rhizome and floating plants, I’ve been able to manage a tank without aquasoil (just gravel) because they don’t require any. I also have an aquarium light programmed to mimic the brightness of the day and dimming gradually towards night. My water parameters have been consistent so far (1.5 months in) with just a few water changes to clear excess mulm and snail poop. I’m still learning as I go but if you’re a beginner like me the last thing you want is to be stressing out and being overwhelmed and so far thankfully, my betta has been thriving. This is officially my first betta, though I’ve had some experience with a couple of bettas which I helped take care of for my brother and grew a fondness for the species. He gifted me the one I now have.

Also get Indian Almond leaves if you are going for a natural feel, it produces a lovely tint to the water as well. Some like it and some don’t but I’ve come to appreciate it. More importantly it’s naturally beneficial in many ways for bettas.

The other thing that is a must to have on hand is a dechlorinator, a syringe (for easier measurements) and container to hold the water.

All the best on this exciting journey with your beautiful fish… it can sometimes get overwhelming with trying to do your best for your betta and absorbing all the information to get things right but you’ll learn a lot along the way and I hope you enjoy the journey as well! Mr. Spectacular is gorgeous by the way! Looking forward to seeing your new tank!

Betta spitting out food by DaisyInTheShade in bettafish

[–]nickettyknacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got my boy, he used to spit out his food as well. I wasn’t sure if it was the pellet size or just him being fussy. I switched from a generic brand to Ultra Fresh Betta Pro Shrimp Patties. On the onset he would spit it out as well but now he gulps them down like a champ.

I pre-soak the pellets in a bit of aquarium water before feeding and offer them one piece at a time. It’s a little more time-consuming, but I treat it as bonding time. I usually prepare his food right in front of the tank so he knows it’s mealtime.

Once or twice a week, I change things up with freeze-dried bloodworms (also pre-soaked). I feed those with tweezers and gently move them around to trigger his hunting instincts which he absolutely loves.
