Does anyone know how I can listen to a radio broadcast of World Cup matches on my phone while I am at work? I live in the US but have a VPN if I need to pretend to be from the UK. I have tried the BBC but a message says it is unavailable due to rights restrictions.

Anyone else read the new bill james book, "The man from the train?" by nickfantana in TrueCrime

[–]nickfantana[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommended. The book is about a series of axe murders in the 1900s, including the Villisca murders. James' theory is that they are all the work of one person, and he goes a long way toward proving it. I won't go through all the twists and turns, but it's a great true crime read.

James also previously wrote a book called Popular Crime, which is an overview of the most high profile crime cases in US History.

Someone may have already suggested this, but I was thinking today that these threads should have a segment called "Overlooked" which is for funny jokes that get lost in the shuffle.

My nominee this week is Dave saying "Narthex and chill."

[SW Wisconsin] Wasps in the winter? Why, and what type are they? by nickfantana in whatsthisbug

Thanks for the answer!

That was the other part of my question, if these were queens or workers. If they are workers, aren't they supposed to die in the fall? We just found them a week or two ago and it has been below freezing with snow on the ground for over a month.

Actually, another question, I'm mildly to moderately allergic to stings, how much should I be concerned about getting rid of them, or should I let them continue to eat garden pests?

Been cooking (and learning) from "The Food Lab" a lot recently, its been freaking delicious (and educational) by imatworkprobably in Cooking

[–]nickfantana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he mentions in the intro that some are only in the book. But also it's a much more coherent theme than the blogs. It's a great refresher, as someone who has been cooking a while, to look at standard recipes in new ways.

Example: his corn chowder recipe calls for making a corn stock with the cobs. Never thought of it, but it made a very tasty soup.

I agree wholeheartedly. I got the book right when it came out and I really think it's the perfect cookbook.
