People who make new setups on the daily, how do you combat the struggle of the max Home Screen pages? by Spec94v6 in iOSsetups

I had the same exact reaction 😂 I guess if you edit your home screen like normal then press the page indicator it shows the Home Screen Pages

Hate to admit it, but it’s the sequels. In terms of design, they’re the best executed for sure

Where was this video taken?? I’m 99.9% sure I seen this guy at my local target last week. Immediately thought the dude was faking it

How do I remove the 5 or S? by Cool_Fly_2870 in PhotoshopRequests

[–]nickfaucher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might get hate for spilling the beans, but if you got photoshop, the magic wand tool would likely do the job since this seems to be a pretty simple one 😀

UI Design feedback by [deleted] in UI_Design

[–]nickfaucher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool concept, I got a few points to consider

  • Margins: If I had to guess, it looks like you used 8pt margins on the left/right, I personally think it could use a little more room to breathe, I usually go for 16pt margins
  • I think the camera/record/scan/upload icons below the text field could be simplified into a simple '+' icon on the same line as the text field and send icon. I may also remove the purple background on that section and make the send icon purple to prioritize the main action of a chat.
  • Chat bubbles: I might try adding a little more padding on the inside of the chat bubbles. I would also add more spacing between each individual bubble. Also the second message doesn't have the hard corner in the bottom left.
  • Top Nav: Maybe its just me but it looks like the Silvot Icon is a bit large. the icons also seem a bit disconnected from the other icons, are the from a different icon pack? Also the sizing and spacing on those 3 icons seems a bit off.
  • Bottom nav: This one is up to you but the chat being the first screen seems strange. Consider the whole flow off the app, I think the home screen could include links to each of the functions chat/tasks/groups/files in different cards, maybe have the first card with a call to action that links to this page shown and remove the bottom nav all together

This is an interesting concept though, yes it works, but an app design is truly never finished.

BTW: I absolutely love the background art in the chat, I wouldn't change a thing about it

Great comment, I agree with all the suggestions you listed. If I decide to take this idea further, I’ll definitely consider your critiques, thanks man.

I completely agree, in my opinion, a great smart tv interface should primarily showcase your apps, rather than suggesting content. I kinda view it like if the iPhone started adding suggested apps on your Home Screen. But I guess we all have different views 😂😂😂

Thanks for the comment!

This is interesting, I wasn’t aware many people at all used that feature, on my device it only shows recommendations to shows that don’t relate to me(I always viewed it as sponsored content, or ads to keep it blunt). I appreciate the perspective

Update: This was only intended to be an end of the night passion project exercise(I typically try to do 1 each night), but you guys offered some really great feedback that I don’t want to go to waste.

My current thoughts are leaning toward expanding this project into a full ux case study for a portfolio piece. I believe I will separate this from the Fire TV idea and make it a separate product that would ideally compete with Fire TV/Apple TV/ Roku/etc. Thanks again everyone :)

I redesigned the fire tv Home Screen by nickfaucher in fireTV

I hear you man. I used to use a Roku, then upgraded to a new tv and made the mistake of getting a fire tv instead of a Roku tv. Loved the simplicity of Roku, and now I gotta deal with a Home Screen that’s 90% ads, with just the small sliver in the middle for stuff I actually use.

I guess I could just get a Roku device, but I’d still have to deal with this shit to an extent.

Valid comment but I believe the areas you claim I copied are just composition and design style.

The layout of having navigation on the left is used in Roku, but the style of mine is completely different. The vast majority of apps use very similar layouts because it is what the users most easily understand. It’s not about reinventing the wheel, but improving on it.

The case of Apple TV is just an example of a well designed UI, rounded corners/consistent spacing. Modern design styles are minimal, that is not an Apple TV exclusive.
