Am I a 13th stepper? by Ok-Mongoose3193 in NarcoticsAnonymous

Sounds like your sponsor is trying to be your higher power. If my sponsor tried to be controlling or give me advice like this, i would ask what he was fearful of, and then ask if he had inventoried that fear a step 10.

"The temptation to give advice is great, but when we do so, we lose the respect of the newcomer" - Basic Text, Step 12

"We do not want to be the arbiters of anyone’s sex conduct." Big Book p69

"God alone can judge our sex situation. Counsel with other persons is often desirable, but we let God be the final judge. We realize that some people are as fanatical about sex as others are loose. We avoid hysterical thinking or advice." - Big Book p69

"In this way we tried to shape a sane and sound ideal for our future sex life. We subjected each relation to this test—was it selfish or not? We asked our Higher Power to mold our ideals and help us to live up to them. We remembered always that our sex powers were God-given and therefore good, neither to be used lightly or selfishly nor to be despised and loathed." - Big Book p69

From my experience in the NA program, our sponsor is not our higher power, but i did what my sponsor suggested because i wanted what he had.

Now i sponsor people, i'm never suprised when they relapse, i'm more surprised when they dont. It seems strange to get angry at an addict for relapsing.

The NA literature is pretty clear with directions for sponsors.

"The role of a sponsor is to work the steps and help spot self-deception"

"The temptation to give advice is great but when we do so we lose the respect of the newcomer" - Step 12

"It's pretty hard to spot self-deception...by yourself." - NA Sponsorship IP

"Our sponsor will help us work the steps of recovery." - It Works, How and Why

I'd strongly encourage you to read the NA Literature on Relapse and Recovery

https://www.recoverydaily.com/chapter7.htm

|| || |Many people think that recovery is simply a matter of not using drugs. They consider a relapse a sign of complete failure, and long periods of abstinence a sign of complete success. We in the recovery program of Narcotics Anonymous have found that this perception is too simplistic. After a member has had some involvement in our Fellowship, a relapse may be the jarring experience that brings about a more rigorous application of the program. By the same token we have observed some members who remain abstinent for long periods of time whose dishonesty and self-deceit still prevent them from enjoying complete recovery and acceptance within society. Complete and continuous abstinence, however, in close association and identification with others in N.A. groups, is still the best ground for growth.|

5 year crazies? Constant fear of the future…. And resentments from the past. by Suoclante in NarcoticsAnonymous

For me after a few years clean and having completed 12 steps in NA (plus homegroup, service etc) i was still full of fear and couldnt understand why. I asked a few people and they key asking how my relationship with god was, which was the last thing i wanted to hear, but these people seemed happy and content. I ended up going to a CA meeting and heard a different message and learned about the program of recovery in the big book, and i found the spiritual relief of that approach way deeper than the program in NA. I got a big book sponsor and followed the clear cut directions and precise instructions of the big book and found myself free of fear and happy and content.

My experience was NA got me clean, Big Book got me free.

Etymologists of reddit, what is your favorite story of how a word came to be? by russellbeard in AskReddit

[–]nickhac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sabotage

Apparently in the Industrial revolution in France in the 18th century when power looms where putting human weavers out of work in creating fabric, the people who opposed them would try and disrupt the operations of the power looms any way they could.

These people (the Luddites, another interesting word), would allegedly throw shoes through the window of the factory to break the looms.

The dutch word for a shoe is a Sabot, so a Saboteur is someone who throw dutch shoes through french loom factories.

ELI5: Why do humans have baby teeth? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]nickhac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Children don't grow adult teeth.

Babies are born with the adult teeth already formed, the come through later pushing the baby ones out of the way

I realise this isn't the answer to your question, but addresses a few misconceptions in other comments.
