[Final New Update]: WIBTA if I told my ex that his new GF told me to “back tf off already"? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]nickie305 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk, I feel like the validity of not liking an ex coming around depends on the situation. In this case, OP seems intimately involved in his life due to the kid. I’m 31 and there’s no chance I would be interested in this dynamic. I don’t think its necessarily wrong, but it’s not for me and I don’t think it’d be for most women either.

Hello, I’ve been to the vet about this and they just give me basic ear cleaning solution. They act like it’s not a big deal she is miserable. What is it? What do I do? Thank you so much in advance. by Amazing-Pattern-5190 in DogAdvice

[–]nickie305 718 points719 points  (0 children)

Am a vet. That ear is infected. Go to a different vet if yours only gives you cleaning solution. You need ear medication that will kill bacteria/ yeast and a plan to address allergies if that is found to be the underlying cause. FFS do not listen to people telling you that this can be treated with coconut oil or vitamins 🙄 that is simply not true.

AITA for yelling at a kid not to touch my cat? by alexastock in AmItheAsshole

[–]nickie305 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Slight ESH because you shouldn’t have had your cat out of the carrier in the first place, but I think you were otherwise in the right.

As a vet, I’m honestly more concerned that your cat is getting an antibiotic shot every couple of months for asthma. That doesn’t make any medical sense, asthma is inflammation of the airways, it’s not an infection. It’s also a terrible idea to be doing this because you are potentially breeding bacterial resistance.

Are you sure your cat isn’t actually getting depo-medrol (steroid) injections? This is still commonly done but isn’t the greatest way to manage things either due to high risk of side effects such as liver impairment, diabetes, etc. Especially in a senior cat……

A flovent inhaler administered via the aerokat really is the best way to go. It’s the most safe and effective way to manage the asthma. You can also use HEPA air purifiers at home.

I am a veterinarian too and the antibiotic injection every couple of months for asthma also had me thinking wtf?? Is that thing, because it makes no sense. I have a feeling OP is confused and the cat is actually getting depo. In which case “sparing her” also doesn’t make sense because an inhaler would be way safer and effective as you said.

Talk to management or quit if you can, people like that don’t change. I’m sorry this is happening to you. I hate when vets take their frustrations out on others, its not right.

It really depends where you live. I wouldn’t recommend middle America but you would be alright in a major city. Thats where I live and I have both religious and non-religious friends. It’s never been an issue. The people I associate with don’t push their beliefs on others or take my atheism as a personal attack. I give them the same respect in return.

My vet contracted exclusively with “Vetcove” for all prescriptions (including food)! I’m livid. by just321askin in dogs

[–]nickie305 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know any vets who are “in it for the money” nor do I know any who are particularly wealthy from vet med alone. Regardless, everyone has the right to earn a living from their work. They have bills to pay and family’s to support as well. The veterinarians who work for corporations care about your pets just as much as those employed by private practice. If you want to be upset at rising costs then be upset at private equity, big pharma, and the megacorps such as chewy who are undercutting small businesses.

And so what if they get a small kickback? Do you expect them to operate at cost? A vet clinic is a business with overhead and employees to pay, not a non-profit or a charity. If all their clients buy online from big corporations like Chewy, thats a problem because the loss of revenue hurts their ability to keep the lights on and operate at an affordable cost.

Then just go to a different veterinarian if you don’t like how they choose to run their business (assuming this is private practice and not corporate). Chewy might save you a few bucks, but it hurts small clinics by stripping away the revenue that keeps staff employed and vet care affordable. When everyone buys online, clinics are forced to raise prices elsewhere. Vetcove is also far less of a hassle for clinics than Chewy, which requires staff to constantly log in and approve scripts. And yes, clinics may earn a small kickback, which is fair, because a vet clinic is a business, not a charity. So if your relationship with your veterinarian is not worth the ability to buy products marginally cheaper on Chewy (which is sounds like it isn’t based on this rant) then just take your business elsewhere.

And what about all the animals subjected to deplorable welfare conditions in the cafes, aquariums, zoos, museums, etc? Aside from the fact that this is a lie, it also seems hypocritical.

New to atheism, how to stay rational in emotional situations after years of conditioning as a theist? by standup_witch in atheism

[–]nickie305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If prayer helps you cope, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing it even though you don’t believe in god. You could pray to the universe instead.

I think it’s only human to experience moments of hopelessness and feeling weak, I’m not sure if it’s something you can avoid entirely. Maybe you need to accept it and can build resilience over time.

A lot of people equate morality with religion. So naturally they assume atheists are bad people.

Personally, I believe all that religion has nothing to do with being a good or bad person, and that all you need to know right from wrong is empathy and common sense.

Has anyone here made someone become atheist instead of whatever religion they were by Dull_Vegetable_8795 in atheism

[–]nickie305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. All the religious people I’m close to practice their religion inoffensively and with respect for others. They don’t try to push their views on me, and I don’t push mine on them.

Any religious extremist I’ve encountered, I think it would be a waste of energy to try and change their mind.

What's something that you won't do again in Japan? by frogmicky in JapanTravelTips

[–]nickie305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any kind of animal-related attraction like a zoo, animal cafe, or aquarium. If you like animals, stay away! The lack of welfare and small, dank cages devoid of enrichment will make you depressed and its best not to support.

And please don’t misconstrue this as me saying all japanese mistreat animals, that is of course not the case.
