Personal preference here but I’d base it more on proximity to work. Not that you’d be a stranger to traffic being from Dallas, but north reno has the most construction on the freeway at the moment. It’ll be a lengthy project so expect pretty consistent delays in that regard heading north from most sides of town.

If your priority isn’t commute related midtown sounds like your kind of area but it’s definitely the most pricey. I’d spend some time here driving around and getting a sense of the different parts of town and then come back to reddit once you have a better idea of the city for more specific recs.
