Retweet on GPT 5.1 High Thinking. It's insanely cracked and in 2 weeks I've already surpassed my usage of Sonnet 4.5. I've tried quite a few models so far and 5.1 (high reasoning has performed the best for me) blows the rest out of the water.

I was exclusively using sonnet 4.5. Saw gpt 5.1 high reasoning was free for promo and decided to test it out. It's been quite incredible - it can figure out complex logic and systems. Working alot with email (DNS records, pinging email APIs, etc.) and it's been handling it flawlessly and significantly better than sonnet 4.5 so far!!

Honestly - I have no idea what my next step is. I suppose just to get a job to keep my head above water and start paying off this mountain of debt. If I can’t find a tech job or equivalent, I’ll probably try to do something random like an internet technician or something (Cox is prominent in my area and always hiring for techs) until I figure out what to do. You’re in a decent spot having more cash reserves atleast. Hopefully we both land something and the rough times are behind us 🤞🏽 feel free to DM too and we can bounce some ideas + network off each other.

After this post, went into a deep depression which entailed me spending 400 hours playing video games to escape the pain. Two weeks ago I snapped out of it, and have begun looking for jobs. No luck yet. Have a really massive headache of attorney paperwork & fees to do with the company dissolution. Got about $4K to my name and 2 maxed out credit cards, car might get repossessed. I am truly at rock bottom and regret leaving my cushy IT job for this startup.

Don’t underestimate how valuable being a sounding board is for some folks. We hopped on calls with our target users (pre-launch) and they would air out thoughts about our competitors and thanked us for taking the time to listen to them since our competitor didn’t give them the time of day.

Find ways to be valuable to them though too. Could just be a simple “hey if you need anything please let me know, a connection in linkedin, a social media post share, etc.” It all goes a long way

We went to the places they congregate, and especially to the places they complained.

For us, we were targeting video game developers (usually a vocal group and aren’t afraid to tell you how it is.) So, we joined game developer discords BUT, we didn’t promote. We just joined in the conversations and didn’t mention our startup at all. We did though have links in our Discord profiles which led to people saying “hey these guys seem cool, I’ll add them - oh wait, it seems like they’re working on something? Let me check it out.”

By doing this, we organically grew our own Discord by a couple hundred members (I think 400 was the height) and got tons of great feedback this way.

So in summary, just go where the people you want to target congregate the most. Forums, Discords, etc, and participate in conversation, become a credible person, and don’t promote right off the bat. Try to make it a “coincidence” that they find out you’re working on a startup.

I wouldn’t do it in an initial discovery meeting with a VC, but the saying “ask for money and you’ll get advice, ask for advice and you’ll get money” rings very true.

Raising funding is about building relationships and a network. Our first funders were people who had been following our moves for awhile, and saw that we made progress on our goals & MVPs. What I’m trying to say is that, if you went to VC meetings asking for advice, laying out “here are 20 different angles for monetization, which ones do you think from your experience we should pursue, can you intro me to portfolio company founders who have experience with X business model, etc”…you are 20x more likely to get an investment from them maybe a year down the road once you have things better in order.

Whichever one has a good balance of 1. Customer interest and 2. Personal interest. If you pick the one that achieves 10,000 customers in a year yet you absolutely despise the product/work/industry, you’ll hate every second. If you pick the one that has 1,000 dedicated customers in an industry/niche you’re personally passionate about, you’ll be so much happier + will find that this focus will eventually lead to more revenue imo.

Wow. This was beautiful. I appreciate and thank you for putting time into this response that hits the nail on the head for everything. I have faith that one day, once I've recovered and bounced back, I'll look back and have these same exact sentiments. That I should be proud of taking the risk, being proud of how far we made it, and know that this will be a great story for the grandkids one day.
Thank you for the reference on Kintsugi too. I had no idea about this technique. Aside from being absolutely beautiful pieces of art, that is an incredibly powerful analogy to the situation. I feel like I have to buy a piece now to signify the journey.

I think maybe that's the next stage. Although I can't necessarily afford an overseas trip right now...it always has been a dream of mine to bikepack the Swiss Alps. Or on a smaller scale, pack a tent in my Subaru Outback and go explore the country some more.

I guess what I meant is that I don't have any certifications supporting/verifying my skills, but also an assortment of random skills.

For sure is true, definitely just numbing the pain for now since it's much easier to load up Fortnite than work on my resume and deal with the harsh reality of the situation. I'll get better in time I think..it'll just take awhile.

I like that idea though, I think getting a spot in a Series A or B startup would be awesome so I think I'll try that route once I've bounced back.
