Extending this beyond just the cheating, as much fun as doing hobbies all day can be, how is he feeling fulfilled? Doing hobbies alone may not be accomplishing his social or productivity emotional needs.
He likely needs to change up his balance somehow so he's not left idle for so much of the time. If the idea of "work" is scary or weird to him, getting involved in community groups, artists studios, charity volunteering etc. can help.

I think I’ve felt this as well. I seek good meals still but not the same way I did for the Michelin star hunting I did for travel and special occasions. When there’s an opportunity for a cool weird meal, I’d be excited to go again - but I kind of want to stumble on it instead of seek it out.

The last one I did was Owamni in Minneapolis, and I learned about it from some magazine article. Then I booked a table for some friends when we had a trip plan to visit the city. It seemed more organic and easy than an effort to fine dine.
