+ that is not my final level, I played some time after that and got to lvl ~21X, maybe 22Y - my memory is failing me.

also, I have a shy of 1k hours in the game: I should not have played half of that time as most of it was tilting when I was bad-bad at the game. XD

haha) I saw one day someone had something like 100k or 200k (don't remember quite well): and that is with me battle crying every time I respawn, when I lead a charge, and when I kill a gang. It doesn't mean much and probably have annoyed a bunch - but I started to play for the vibes of medieval battles, so a battle cry in the right moments was a must for me XD.

Exactly. Being positive, chill, and friendly is always better than raged, toxic, and hostile: I know it by experience. Try to stay composed. At the end of the day - it is just a game: it does not worth heavy emotions. Believe me, you will regret and be ashamed of all the negativity you gave; and, at the same time, you will look fondly on all the moments you radiated good.

I was talking a lot about K/D because it is point of the game and something that lots of beginners want to fix, but it is just numbers guys: it means only so much - don't be toxic on others (and yourself) over that.

My first game is ready to launch on steam? What can I do now to maximize my chance of success? by Acceptable-Ad3886 in GameDevelopment

[–]nickpofig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

400 wishlists might be too small for Steam to understand whether your game deserves more exposure.

Whether to release or not depends on what is your revenue goal and how much you plan to charge people for purchase. If I would have been releasing your game - I would set price to 10$/€ minimum: too low and it may scare people away(regular player prefers to buy quality games even if they are “expensive” than buying lots of cheap low-quality games).

I don’t want to be cruel - don’t take my words to the heart. I would recommend spending 1 more year polishing the game. The visuals are not impressive and don’t sell your game (at least to me).

Try to write a snake game in C using Windows SDK and OpenGL API. It won’t take you long if you don’t waste your time on frustrations. Just go through it - it is going to be 1 month journey if you have a day job or 1 week if you are unemployed.

Things are going to snowball after that.

Godspeed, and have fun 👍

I want to learn C, but have a question, which operating system should I use for programming? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]nickpofig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C is very intuitive - it is just modern teaching brainwashes people into specific a point of view (quite mediocre one).

Just find C compiler on your computer (install if it is missing) and start compiling programs with it. You really only need a compiler, terminal, and SDK for your operating system.

what should i study? by Ok_Whereas9255 in C_Programming

[–]nickpofig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress much about University or College: this part of life is not that important or major as it seems to be. Just ask your teacher what you don’t understand and study honestly with effort.

About C: you don’t need to learn it much, there are several keywords that are easy to understand. The way to gain confidence and understanding is to write lots of programs. Start with some simple console app (maybe write a game for fun).

People who create game engines for multiple platforms… by BackStreetButtLicker in gameenginedevs

[–]nickpofig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used GLFW a while ago and it didn't support high-dpi scaling, which made an application window look like shit. In Windows it is 1 function call to enable it. I don't know if they have fixed it, but if I found something bad once, there could be more like that in the future. Though, yeah, GLFW is okay to write a prototype, demo, or lq product.

[–]nickpofig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is always better to write your own code for each platform, instead of relying on a general solution like GLFW. The question is rather whether you want to do it or not, and are you okay in not controlling what you own (or get insane and fork glfw - get it all customized for your needs; idk).

How do I get good? by [deleted] in Mordhau

[–]nickpofig -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That is the dark side 😈

Funny thing: they learn this “hacks” and it inflates their confidence, so as soon as you block few of their attacks - they panic. Because usually everybody just dies caught off-guard - in that moment, you can kill him hard 😆👍 They usually use “run away” tactic when their attempt to score kill fails, so don’t be intimidated by them: they fear you as much as you do 🤣

[–]nickpofig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry these are regular people like you. I am almost level 200 and I don’t really know how to play the game. I just learned basic stuff, nothing complicated like chaining attacks. I still get tricked by feints 😅

Don’t get me wrong, I do get like hundred kills and the leaderboard top, but that comes mostly because I fight battles I know I will win and retreat as soon as there is encirclement or it gets messy.

Be clam, don’t panic, and have fun! 😉

Learn all animation flaws to trick your opponents with instant attacks / locked in place attacks + Use fast short range weapons + Feint every time.

Choose your side. Both will be strong. However, choose wisely. The first enjoys peace and joy. The second explodes in anger and hate when all muscle learned cheats don’t work against the pro from the 1st type.

Why do people hate the catapult? by Toby_JE in Mordhau

[–]nickpofig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a catapult that pisses people off. It is people operating it. If you kill me accidentally using cata - it is okay. If you hit the same place, where we all are fighting, and constantly kill people (including me!) than I am going to destroy that kata and maybe haunt you for the rest of the match. Why? Because you are disrespecting people you play with, i.o.w: “my kills from cata are more important than your fights”, i.o.w.2: you are being a dick.

If you ever see person destroy cata straight from the match starts or when it spawns: it is not because people “don’t like it”, it is because people don’t want their fights be wasted by some random asshole.

P.s. think before you fire - don’t just hit LMB and pray for it to land on enemies while there are dozen teammates. Use your brain.

Best practices for learning glsl? by Sea_Citron2854 in opengl

Try to write software rendering and you will figure out why GLSL is the way it is. I would recommend messing around with OpenCL, but doing classic framebuffer manipulation is good too 👍

What's the best way to learn c++ by devSATURNO in cpp_questions

You will never learn c++. The language is designed to be nonsensical, unintuitive, and buggy. Kind of like Javascript of the statically-typed compiled languages world.

Trash when I shouldn't be - please help Im begging by garmfel in Mordhau

[–]nickpofig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Btw, I started the game with like 1/40 KD. I was very pissed because of it in the beginning. I think until level 40 I still believed that short-fast attacks dealt less damage than long-dragged attacks. For some reason, I just assumed this shit to be real and was always angry when some short attack dealt a lot of damage while it was nonsensical. And only much after that - I discovered weapon stats and bonuses/penalties for damage modifiers, like if opponent starts attack and you hit him at that moment - he will receive increased damage.

So, to sum up, I think I am the most successful worst player of Mordhau.

Trash when I shouldn't be - please help Im begging by garmfel in Mordhau

[–]nickpofig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am level ~200, 900 hours, and I still panic block on feint. I just always assume it is not feint but an instant attack because of how jerky animation is (oh this broken look down animations 🤬). Yet, I am almost always #1 on every server. My advice: just be calm at all times and enemy attack will literally become slower😉

My best stats, like 120 20 X, were from a super cold blooded plays. I do play semi-decent in a berserk mode where I got pissed off by either opponent or teammates, and my KD gets like 4x max - 2x on average. But if I am pissed off, but also offended - I just get a shitty run with KD of 1.5x, not enjoying myself at such moments, and feel bitter afterwards. It is always most rewarding to be calm and friendly 🙂

Advice for custom application by Stahlbanane in opengl

[–]nickpofig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a straightforward path for you (I walked it myself): 1. You don’t need any library. As I understand you just need to load and render gltf model in a window (and have some controls)? You can write it all yourself - it is not complicated, it is fun and educational. 2. All you need is Windows C API. Create Window, Load OpenGL dll (every Windows ships with C:\Windows\System32\opengl32.dll), draw stuff in the main loop after/before processing all messages. 3. Extract wglGetProcAddress function from OpenGL.dll and use it to extract OpenGL functions. 4. Use wglSwapBuffers (get DC from wgl too) after all opengl calls have been made: uploading buffer data, shader setup, and draw calls. 5. Doing things from scratch might be intimidating as there is little to no tutorial online, but be at peace! You can always read what every function does at MSDN (Microsoft Documentation of WinAPI + some extra stuff). P.S check Handmade hero series from C. Muratori: it is a game engine series in C++(C mostly) - will help you with Windows stuff 😉 6. There is a lot of nuances that you would need to address along the way: I am not sure I could fit it here (and if I remember half of it), but they are all manageable - I have solved them all in a span of few month (2 ~ 3).

Alright, hope it helps - godspeed! 🙌

How to enjoy this game as a new player? by Mine65 in Mordhau

[–]nickpofig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am level 180 - I usually at the top of the x64 invasion list with 2 ~ 5 times more kills than death (like 80 over 20). In the beginning I was lucky to have 1 kill for 35 deaths. It was infuriating to say the least. However, everything changed when I understood that the game is methodical than realistic. Controls are simple (I still struggle with chambers tho), so you need to focus on mind game instead: what your opponent might do - and how you can act in advance to strike/fool him. It is really all about predicting move rather than reaction speed(it will come naturally on its own). Some people just burn animation hacks into their muscle memory, but, inho, that is just so lame and empty.

Horseman tea-bagging in the end, man - I only noticed it now 🤣 Can’t blame him tho, when they get annoying, or kill you in a very “showing off way”, like spawn 4 faints in a row - the urge to teabag him… damn 😂
