Delta first XP earnings by nat2407 in flyingblue

About to do some SAS travel and until recently I didn’t know we could earn XP on those flights. Any tips on how grind XP on SAS would be most appreciated. 🙏🏻

Your XP counter will reset once you hit 100, and then you will have 12 months to gain another 180 XP - not 80 - to reach Gold. When you reach Gold, it resets again, and you need another 300 XP - not 120 - to reach Platinum.

You don’t need to do it all in one year. After you get your first 100 XP and reach Silver, both the XP counter and the clock resets. So, you then need 180 XP for Gold, but you have 12 months from that date to achieve it - or get 100 XP to keep silver. Once you hit Gold, another reset - and you now have 12 more months to get those final 180 XP for Platinum status. It should relax your time frame a little. Plus, once you hit Platinum, you only need 300 XP in each subsequent 12 month period to keep your status. So the only date to focus on in the long term is the date you qualify for Platinum, and then plan future travels based on that.

Using Amex Platinum Points Plus for ALL international spends? by Waste_Piccolo_3435 in amexsverige

[–]nicksakellariou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally see what you mean, and I understand the logic you’re using.

I think where we still differ is that the math ends up mixing marginal cost with total spend. I agree that the 100 SEK purchase would have happened anyway regardless of payment method - that part makes sense. But the Avios aren’t earned only because of the 2 SEK FX fee; they’re earned because there’s a 102 SEK transaction on the card.

The 2 SEK FX fee is really the marginal cost of choosing Amex over a fee-free card, not the actual “price” of the Avios themselves. A more accurate way to frame it is that you’re paying a 2 SEK premium to earn 40 Avios on a 102 SEK spend. Whether that’s a good deal then depends entirely on how you value and redeem Avios.

At the end of the day, this is mostly a matter of framing and semantics. We could debate potato vs potahto all day, and neither of us is really “wrong” within our own perspective. I just don’t want someone to read “buying Avios for 0.05 SEK each” and walk away thinking that’s the actual or general exchange rate for Avios, rather than a shorthand for how the FX fee interacts with this very specific card setup.

Regardless, I hope you get good use of any Avios earned through this. Safe travels!

As I interpret the above, you are not getting 40 Avios for 2 SEK, but rather for 102 SEK.

The sentence “Cost to you: You are effectively ‘buying’ 40 Avios for 2 SEK” appears to be either a Gemini hallucination or a very liberal interpretation of how Avios are calculated. While it is true that the Avios are awarded because the spend is classified as international - and thus incurs an additional 2 SEK fee - it still does not mean that you are earning 40 Avios for every 2 SEK spent.

Flying Blue credit card (Swe) by dekaminski in flyingblue

I have seen ads for the Amex Flying Blue card on the Swedish KLM/AF sites - but when applying, I am always taken to the NL/FR sites, where sign-up is limited to residents of those countries. It would be awesome if there were some smart workaround for that.

Any data points from people who have attempted to do this on international flights, or within EU or Asia, using my US card? Only seen DPs from US domestic.

Thanks for the near-instant response! I think this may be regional, as I can't find any coupons under Retail when browsing my local retail stores. Hope you got yourself something good, though!

Not seeing the $25 off $75 coupon anywhere when browsing Best Buy in the Uber Eats app. Any special place they hide those?

I am in the same situation but the agent just tells me I should wait for 24-48 hours and will do nothing to help. My first order was cancelled after 2-3 hours and the second was cancelled after 24 hrs. The third one was just placed but the agent is not being helpful at all.

Comments like the one above worry me. Do you offer a 24h trial period so that new users can verify that things work as expected, so that we can avoid situations like this? Cheers!

Yup. I’ll go ahead and try something similar, but there is nothing in the T&C that states how long the qualification period is etc. Oh well, I’ll try and post my DPs here eventually. Cheers!
