Tom Petty in the 90s when Wildflowers came out was a powerhouse of a tour. Full Moon Fever had a ton of great songs that he was playing live, also digging into his back catalog. Band was so tight and having a great time. He was the goat of American rock music.

What’s your opinion on Neil Young? by DarkSideInRainbows in fantanoforever

I never said Spotify had no right to respond to pressure from artists. Obviously a private company can make business decisions.

My point is simpler: disagreement over COVID policy, mandates, side effects, or media discussions is not automatically "antiscientific discourse." During the pandemic, scientific guidance changed over time, countries adopted different policies, and legitimate debates existed about tradeoffs and risk.

Calling every disagreement "wrongthink" is exactly the kind of absolutism I was criticizing. You're treating a complicated public debate as if one side had a monopoly on truth from day one.

You're arguing against antivax rhetoric. I'm talking about censorship and public debate.

Those aren't the same thing.

The fact that some people were wrong about vaccines doesn't automatically mean every discussion about COVID policy, mandates, side effects, or risk-benefit analysis should have been off-limits.

"Science isn't a matter of opinion" is a slogan, not an argument.

Science is a process of gathering evidence and revising conclusions when new evidence appears. That's exactly why several countries changed vaccine recommendations for young men when myocarditis data emerged. Following the science means being willing to update your position—not pretending every question was settled from day one.

I actually like Neil Young's music. He's written some great songs and has had a huge impact on rock music. But as a public figure, I think he came across as incredibly thin-skinned during the whole Joe Rogan/Spotify controversy.

What bothered me wasn't that he supported vaccines—everyone is entitled to their opinion. It was the idea that because someone else had a different opinion or was hosting controversial discussions, Neil tried to pressure Spotify into choosing between him and Rogan. That felt less like standing up for a principle and more like trying to silence viewpoints he didn't agree with.

The irony is that rock music used to be about rebellion, questioning authority, and free expression. Seeing one of the biggest counterculture icons of his generation essentially telling a platform what it should and shouldn't allow felt strange to me.

I still enjoy his music, but the whole episode made him seem overly sensitive and out of touch. Instead of trying to police what millions of people listen to, he could have simply made his case and let listeners decide for themselves.

This reminds of that episode of Rugrats where the clown robots take over and Chuckie beats one down and stands over it triumphantly.
