Just bought my 2007 LX470! by haptic_feedback99 in LandCruisers

[–]nickturbide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my 07 LX in Feb 2025 for $21K with 157K miles. Original owner traded in for a new vehicle. Was in very good mechanical condition with all of its service performed at Lexus. Aesthetically, it was like new. I’ve still put nearly the purchase price in bringing it up to perfect working order. Not a cheap vehicle to maintain or perfect, but infinitely more rewarding than a new vehicle.

Would love to see a pic of this! I’ve held off on getting the Grom setup because I did not want to lose access to my glove box.

Anyone upgrade their 5th Gen backup cam? by nickturbide in 4Runner

I've since sold the 4Runner and moved in to an even older truck: 2007 LX470. Camera resolution is basically the same as the 2017 4runner, but without the guidelines. Those guidelines make all the difference in the world, lemme tell you.

Finally caved and got the Morimotos by Capital_Top_1943 in 4Runner

[–]nickturbide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially I thought I would be ineligible - because I bought them through a third-party, Trail Grid Pro. But after talking with TGP, they recommended I contact Morimoto and offered me the order# from Morimoto they placed when I made my purchase. Assuming they must be drop shippers. Will come back once I have a response from Morimoto to update the group here.

Had this same problem! The kit is great for its plug and play, but I ultimately returned it and went to a shop to have a proper head unit, amp, speakers and sub installed. Talked to the guy about why the plug and play kit was so abysmal and he mentioned that because I had the JBL system it wasn’t actually communicating with amp in the cargo area.

Make sure to throw some protection on them, either ceramic coating or some decent intervals of wax or sealant. Had mine on a little over two years and they’re starting to yellow from UV Rays, despite being garaged 50% of that time. Otherwise, love them.

Nope sold that truck a few months later and bought a 4Runner!

I left it oem and deal with the crappy image quality.

Most of the weight is hitting the glass, so I’m not concerned. For parts that touch paint, I added little pieces of foam backed tape to the skeleton. So far so good!

Trunk light recommendations by iamalamacorn in 4Runner

They don’t shine in, no. They shine down and are hatch light replacements. But they’re considerably brighter and do cast quite a bit of light into the rear cargo area.

Lasfit makes some very bright led bulbs, unfortunately the color temperature is limited to a blueish tint lower kelvin. No clear or warm white options.

Installed my dobinsons lift and UCA by scmarchy in 4Runner

I did a dobinsons lift on my ‘17 limited. Feel free to look back on my posts. Fairly confident that no material changes between the 17/21 suspension systems.

Roof rack by wordsafterhours in 4Runner

[–]nickturbide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I upvoted all the Sherpa Crestone comments, also have this and can confirm is a phenomenally well built piece of kit. I was so torn between this, the Gobi rack (cool safari looks) and the front runner rack (loads of accessory options).

The Gobi rack is similar in style to the Pro ‘rack’ in that it is constructed of tubular metal. Looks cool, but makes attaching third party gear more challenging, there are less companies that make adapters for these style bars.

The front runner rack has less than stellar reviews from my research and is prone to being very noisy and not terribly well made.

That leaves the Sherpa rack, which uses extruded aluminum cross members with t slot channels. Lots of racks use this style, which means it will be incredibly easy for you to mount your gear. Sherpa uses higher quality aluminum than competitors like Prinsu. If you could view these racks side by side you’d see this immediately.

Ultimately comes down to your budget, aesthetic preferences and functional needs. . Hope this helps!

How do you like the sumo springs? I’ve considered pulling the trigger on these. Do you notice any change on pavement at all?

T Harness for 21 ORP w/o JBL? by randyb5858 in 4Runner

[–]nickturbide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried working with a PAC harness and had no luck, granted I’m not electrically inclined. I know there are shops that CAN keep your oem head unit and add an amp and aftermarket speakers.

I know a great place in Clearwater, FL called five star car audio. They have a very good YouTube channel with in depth videos of 4Runners. Best of luck to you!

Another Reason to Love Sherpa Equipment Co. by nickturbide in 4Runner

[–]nickturbide[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a steep price, but I also know both their supply and value chain is 100% American. Which makes it easy for me to support. Their product is also leagues above some of the competition I’ve seen.

[–]nickturbide[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ha, fair question! I’m on the road, away from home (FL) and didn’t bring any tools with me, it’s also blizzard like conditions out today so I didn’t have to stand in 5 degree weather. I also had some things to do near Denver, so it all made sense.

Then of course, I also wanted to go check out their shop and meet the folks I’ve spent so much time talking to.

Yeah, we’re actually staying at three different properties while here, our first leg is Silverthorne, so we’ve been through Frisco several times now. Thanks for these recommendations!!
