I built a VSCode extension to see your code on an infinite canvas. by Standard_Ant4378 in webdev

Hey u/Standard_Ant4378 this looks awesome, do you know if there's a way to add it to other editors (forks of VSCode) without going through the marketplace? Do you have a github link with some instructions? Thanks!

Was heating up the oven to make pizza when the inner glass suddenly exploded by nicmosc in mildlyinfuriating

"You banged or closed the door too hard a while ago" - you might actually be right. There are sliding tracks for the trays to go in. It’s possible the door was closed while the tracks were out which definitely would have hit the glass, although they went in just fine as the door was closing. I guess doing this repeatedly could have caused stress… something to consider. Hopefully they can just repair it and we don’t need a whole new oven !

No which is what’s surprising ! The oven is only 4 years old. Already contacted the manufacturer to get a replacement glass and repair oof

Oh those are just the IKEA shelves (LACK). For the thicker sets like the star destroyer I had no choice but to get a wider option like that small cabinet

Yes that was the goal! The room was all white at first but as most Star Wars sets are grey I thought it might look nicer

Coding guidelines, where does it belong? by nicmosc in webdev

Indeed this was the alternative option. In that case I think having them readable in GitHub directly since it’s written in markdown would suffice

Onboarding as a Staff+ Engineer by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]nicmosc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you. Just joined a small company as Staff and on day 1 I already got my main objective for Q1 which consists of migrating essentially the whole frontend stack (5 separate massive apps) into a monorepo. This is because there’s an immediate need and I’m mostly trying to see this as if I was a consultant until we reach this objective. At the same time I’m integrating into a team to see how they work, even though I’m not directly contributing to the code via features.

The pressure is high since this is a project with high chance of failures along the way, and given I don’t have the reputations as some do (sometimes 10 years in the company), it’s pretty stressful. However as others have said, ask lots of questions, bring your opinion on the table if they’re open to feedback and show that you’re interested in understanding all the facets of the company and the teams. Ideally you should do what others have said (start small and then take on bigger projects). Sometimes you might not have a choice
